One of the primary concerns associated with using an older operating system is security. Microsoft ceased providing updates and security patches for Windows 7 in January 2020. This leaves the OS more susceptible to malware and other security threats. We at Maxthon recognize these concerns and are committed to ensuring that our browser remains secure on Windows 7. We achieve this by consistently updating the browser and integrating the latest security features.

The Maxthon Cloud Browser is a free, dual-engine Internet browser that incorporates some of the best features from different browser engines, namely Trident and Webkit.Since Maxthon is, as the name suggests, a portable application, it can be run without installation where no changes to the Windows Registry will take place. The layout of Maxthon Cloud Browser is pretty much what you would expect of any modern web browser, though with a few different extra features added. It should be noted that it appears to be a little bit more colorful than Google Chrome.Features here are numerous and include a feed reader, a left panel which includes favorites and notes, a download manager, an online notepad and some other, customizable features. Maxthon Cloud Browser also includes a synchronization and encryption utility. As with virtually all newer browsers, Maxthon supports private browser and a useful password manager to save accounts for autofill later on. It can also export and import user data so switching between machines is possible. Finally, Maxthon Cloud Browser also allows users to go back to earlier days of Internet browsing by activating Retro Mode (Ultra Mode is the current default).Overall, Maxthon Cloud Browser is a capable and fast Internet browser which offers users the opportunity to stray away from the pack and try something different.Features of Maxthon Cloud Browser

Maxthon is a browser with built-in notes, password management and web3 features. Maxnote lets you take notes from any web page and synchronize them on different platform devices at any time. Passkeeper helps you save and autofill payment info as well as usernames and passwords for different sites. Snap shot areas of the screen with Snap screen or entire web pages with Snap page. Resource sniffer helps you discover URLs of and download pictures, videos, music and other file types in the currently opened webpage. Split sceen lets you view two web pages side by side at the same time.

Are there really browsers based on the Netscape code? If yes, I want to try it. I tried the 84mb version of MiniBrowser, but it crashes trying to view some pages and closes when I connect any usb device. 360 works fine, but it's interface is in Chinese/Russian.

Since nobody seems not to have mentioned it yet, latest version of Netsurf browser for Windows runs on XP. Netsurf is minimal web browser using custom render engine. It is proof that "modern" web browser does not need have lot of bloated code and does not need hog all ram like Firefox and Chrome/Chromium forks do (and before someone says they uses ram to improve performance, how it is gonna improve performance filling ram and using swap on low ram system) . That is pretty much sweet spot between going console browser or more memory hog browser.

I'm going to see how Kafan MiniBrowser works. This looks like an original Chromium 87 build with little change.
Testing the configuration menu I see that the "security keys" option resets the browser. The rest works fine.
It catches my attention that when browsing the Internet the Windows XP firewall jumps. I have chosen the option to reject additional network connections and it seems to still work normally.

@Mr.Scienceman2000 Netsurf is the browser for a nearly extinct species: Amiga users! It's nice to have small browsers that still get updates like Netsurf around, but on Windows XP there are more alternatives. The Pentium 3 is more than enough for Netsurf, using only 15 MB RAM here. The TLS-updated Netscape 9 with 25 MB has a better compatibility and customisability however (my prefered choice on Windows 98 computers and weak Windows XP systems, like the 400 MHz Celeron). New Moon (NoSSE or SSE-only) would be the next step to try out, but that gives the 20-year old machine a tough time on some sites.

Web browsers are perhaps the best value of all PC software, given the amount of time a typical user spends online, and all facilitated by a number of free browsers. That makes them easy to try out and evaluate, though users tend to land on a favorite and remain there.

\t \tThere are so many great Web browsers available today that the superpower struggle between IE and Netscape sometimes seems as distant as the Cold War between the U.S. and U.S.S.R. We recently became acquainted with Maxthon, a free browser that offers some unique advantages, such as its Dual Display Modes, Ultra and Retro. Maxthon automatically switches between Ultra Mode, which uses WebKit to render up-to-date sites, and Retro mode, which uses a legacy engine for older sites built with earlier tools. It also offers safe browsing; toolbar apps like notekeeping, translations, feeds, and screen capture; mouse gestures; smart drag-and-drop; autofill; multisearch; and ad and pop-up blockers.

\t \tMaxthon installed very quickly, a good start. Its tabbed interface, customizable toolbars, integrated search field, and Favorites menu give Maxthon a familiar feel that we quickly enhanced by importing our bookmarks, something Maxthon can do from IE or any HTML-based browser bookmark file. Like all contenders in the increasingly crowded browser field, Maxthon's look and features can be customized to suit your needs and moods. The highlighted Safe icon indicated we were visiting a validated Web site; clicking it opened information about the site. The Ad Hunter feature worked quite well, blocking ad pop-ups on the most annoying sites we visit without blocking content we wanted to see; in any case, it's easy to toggle on and off via an icon on the bottom right. There's even a mute button built into the lower frame to quickly silence noisy sites. In fact, Maxthon offers a full complement of features and options, and everything we tried worked well.

Persevere, though, and you'll find a lot to like about Maxthon Cloud Browser, particularly if you'll use its new cloud-based features. It's certainly worth a look, although keep in mind that the program will set itself as the default browser on installation; if you don't want that, choose Advanced installation and clear the "Set as default" option.

Since Maxthon starts MxService.exe on every OS boot and with the highest SYSTEM-level access, this bug allows malware authors to gain admin rights on every computer they manage to infect and where a Maxthon browser is installed.
