Dear Reader

The in-depth cover feature in this month's issue of Pragati interrogates India’s approach to multilateralism: As "India’s status is rising, its stake in some forms of multilateralism is diminishing. In almost every international forum, India has explicitly engaged with smaller groups of powerful nations to affect outcomes at the expense of the more broad-based universalist approach it traditionally espoused toward multilateralism. But will manoeuvres within narrow power-based caucuses in multilateral regimes yield stature in the absence of meaningful commitments to the resolution of global problems?"

In another piece, we highlight a different take on demographics. After 2035, India will face the challenge of a rapidly ageing population -- and although that year might appear far away, it is important for India to prepare for it now, when the nation is in a favourable demographic phase.

This issue also features a review of an interesting history of war of 1857 and reveals how the leaders of the first war of India's independence articulated a vision of personal, political and economic freedoms.

There's a lot more in this issue to read this February. As usual Read & Share.
