Try Chrome Designer Tools today and see how it can transform your workflow.

With that in mind, I found the opportunity to be involved with designing tools for web developers an exciting undertaking. Here was a chance to take (often) highly complex concepts and information and communicate that to an audience with widely varying levels of understanding. How can we enable new-comers to feel empowered and not intimidated? How can we do this while maintaining the established workflows of more practiced experts? How can our tools help bridge the gap between the shallow understanding of a beginner and the proficiency of an expert web developer? How can we provide powerful and innovative tools for game developers, creative hackers, futurist developers, and seasoned veterans, all in the same toolbox?

These questions are what immediately popped into my mind when I was approached with the possibility of working with the Firefox Developer Tools team. The web is an incredible space for makers of all sorts, and the prospect of supporting that creativity is energizing! This year will be incredibly exciting with lots on the go, including new, dedicated Memory and Performance profiling tools, an improved App Manager for FirefoxOS app development, and new visualizations and instruments for network, performance, and memory monitoring. I want to build tools that inspire and unleash the creativity of developers and designers around the world, and I firmly believe we are on the right path.

Seeing what the Developer Tools team has accomplished even in the last half-year has been inspiring, to say the least. It is my goal to support this team as they continue to build amazing software that will go on to enable the future of web development. I sincerely believe that good design is integral to the presentation of new concepts and ideas, and as we continue to introduce new tools, new work flows, and new ways of developing for the web, I hope that my experience and perspective will help magnify the great work that is being done.

I have a batch macro that runs steps on multiple files in a folder separately - i.e. it will run the steps on file 1 and save the output, then when file 1 is complete it will run the steps on file 2 and save that separately, and go on like this until the steps have been ran on each file in the folder.

My issue is that I would like to use interface tools that allow me to edit some of the tools within the batch macro before running. For example, I have a file browse tool linked to the input in the macro and also a text box tool linked to the Start Data Import Option of the input file (Fig.1). In my workflow where the batch macro is inserted I then see the options from the interface tools (Fig. 2).

I would like to be able to edit the options in Fig.2 to allow for a slightly customised run of the workflow. As an example I would like to select a file for the input in Folder A and a header row of 5 and run the workflow so it runs the steps on all files in Folder A with a data import option set to 8. After that is completed I would like to run it again but choosing a separate file for input from Folder B and maybe a header row of 3.

When I select a file and put in a new header row number in Fig. 2 and click run, these options seem to have no effect on the outcome. Can someone please assist? It would be massively appreciated. If the workflow is required let me know and I can upload it

My first instinct assumed this would be a simple question-answer article where I host the student questions and reply with my answers. However, many of the issues felt deserving of more than just a single sentence or paragraph response. That said, while I may answer more than one question per article, I will not solve all of them at once, so here is the first.

A: Maybe I am over complicating the answer, but with so many different types of User Experience Designers, the question becomes much more convoluted. When I am conducting user research, I use various tools from when I am wireframing. Immediately, this question elicited a memory of a half informational, half satirical evolutionary chart of a Career Evolution in Advertising by Designer Diego Zambrano.

However, in the case of User Experience Designers there is not an evolution, but instead categories of job titles and responsibilities. I too decided to create an infographic to represent products commonly used by each User Experience Designer from UXR to Practice Lead. Like the work of Zambrano, I have decided to focus solely on software and not tools like pen, paper, record devices, and other physical materials, but by no means should every task be accomplished with only software, and I profoundly believe all projects should begin with paper, pen, and in-person discussions.

Someone recently asked me how they could print my "Number of Users Recommended for Optimal Research Results" infographic. Because of this request, I found a drop-ship company who does an excellent job printing posters. I even bought one for myself and am happy with the quality.

For a big and medium project, they should not be used, because the code they generate is not very nice to maintain. Unless you don't plan to clean up the code generated by a GUI designer, you are better without it.

Most of times, a good GUI designer (a kind of code generator) is good, where allows you to automate as much code as possible, and, at the same times, allows you to code, manually, special code, than cannot be automated.

You need to understand what your code does. If someone comes to you and says "Why does this happen?", "Visual Studio made that for me, I have no idea" is not an acceptable answer. So long as you can find and resolve your own program bugs, there's no issue with a GUI designer, but once you find yourself fighting the program and unable to follow the logic, you need to back away from the WYSIWYG.

Compare materials, explore colors, and refine your layout with our free 3D deck design software. Once you've put the final touches on your design, download a shopping list of your materials, share a blueprint with your contractor or local planning office to obtain a permit, and show off your creation on social media!
