Women's Work: Health and Medicine at The Hermitage

African-American women at Andrew Jackson's Hermitage were critical to the health and well-being of all people on the plantation, black or white. Using herbs and other medicinal plants, enslaved women oversaw the care and treatment of illness, injuries, and assisted women through childbirth. Explore their stories. Discover how they gained medical knowledge, and practice some of the recipes they used to keep people healthy. For ages 10 and up.
