Hello Folks,
I'm a recent transplant to Chennai and am looking to connect with local game developers, designers, audio / visual artists, etc .
My search yielded general tech and mobile focused groups, but nothing specific to gaming.
I've create Chennai Game Industry Professionals on Google+ [ https://plus.google.com/b/101331343495420270250/ ], Google groups [ http://groups.google.com/group/chennaigip ] and LinkedIn [ http://www.linkedin.com/groups/Chennai-Game-Industry-Professionals-4276648 ] and if there's sufficient interest, we can get something going. Perhaps we can kickoff with a mixer to get to know one another and figure out broad direction for the group.
Thanks,

Hey Joel,
Thanks for the reply.
I'm already a member of both on FB. There is no Chennai chapter of Indie Game Devs; additionally, I'm not particular about connecting with just indies. Nasscom gaming forum seems to be a one-way communication channel with no ability for members to initiate any discussions; they can only reply to posts initiated by organizers.
That said, I'll keep looking.
Cheers.

Sweet. Thanks Kinshuk. The InGDIn website sign-up form lists a bunch of local chapters; Chennai isn't in that list. Did you mean to say that the Indie scene in Chennai (rather than India) is not mature enough? Any idea what it would take to kick off a Chennai chapter?
Also, for other folks on here. There are a 2 NASSCOM forums related to gaming on Facebook and they share very similar names. One is "NASSCOM Gaming Forum" [ https://www.facebook.com/groups/nasscomgamingforum/ ], which allows (non-admin) members to start discussions on the wall. The other is "NASSCOM Animation & Gaming Forum" [ https://www.facebook.com/groups/nasscomanigamvfx/ ], which only allows members to comment on discussions and new discussions can only be created by group admins. With the two names being so similar, it's rather confusing. Additionally, there seems to be no clarity around how the two groups differ and what they do that's different. To me, it doesn't make sense to have 2 separate groups unless one is animation only and the other is gaming only. My email asking for clarification went unanswered. So if anyone knows what the story with that is, please share.
Thanks,
-Vijay
Hey Folks,
Some things have changed between the time I sent in my earlier post and it showed up on the forum.
The Chennai Game Industry Professionals group ( ChennaiGIP ) has moved to FB and is 40 members strong at this time. Those interested can join the FB group page at: http://www.facebook.com/groups/chennaigip -- we have a kickoff meeting scheduled for the weekend of Feb 18th : http://www.facebook.com/events/170795423031118/
I also heard back from a NASSCOM organizer. Of the two FB groups for NASSCOM, the one named NASSCOM Gaming Forum supersedes NASSCOM Animation & Gaming (NAGFO), at least in so far as gaming is concerned. The gaming forum ( sans animation ) was created when members felt a need to have an dedicated gaming forum.
Also, if there are any folks here that want to participate as a team in a game jam, please LMK.
Cheers,
