SQUARE ENIX launches SQUARE ENIX Game Development Contest India 2012
- Aiming to find new talent, it is open to all game developers in
India
SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD, the developer and publisher of FINAL FANTASY,
DRAGON QUEST, TOMB RAIDER and SPACE INVADERS, has announced the launch
of SQUARE ENIX Game Development Contest India 2012.
The contest is first ever by a Japanese company to target the Indian
region. All members of Indie GameDev India are invited to join and
showcase their talent. Multiple prizes are being offered.
This contest will be open to professionals and amateurs in India with
the mission to discover the next generation of talented creators in
India through this initiative. As the slogan of the contest goes,
"Let's bring the best games from India to the world !".
Winners and participants of the contest who show excellent potential
would be given an opportunity to work as development partners of
SQUARE ENIX for IP development and Square Enix may opt to publish
their games.
There is no entry fee and the contest is open to both individuals and
organizations alike. Registrations for the contest will begin soon.
Finalists will be picked on 30th November and the winners will be
announced on 20th December 2012.
Contest Summary
Genres: There are no restrictions regarding the content and genres.

Platforms: Smartphone / Tablet and Browser
Submission Period: August 1st – 30th September, 2012
Prizes: Grand Prize Award Rs. 10,00,000 (1 game)
Excellence Awards Rs. 3,00,000 (2 games)

Background
SQUARE ENIX foray into gaming began with a contest in 1982 when it
held the first “Game Hobby Program Contest” to discover and nurture
talented game developers in Japan. The prize winning entries were
later developed and released successfully as commercial products
reaching dizzy sales heights. This initiative contributed to the
development of the Japanese game industry and many participants later
became leading game developers.
SQUARE ENIX hopes to repeat this in India with the SQUARE ENIX Game
Development Contest India 2012.
