Julie is a 1975 Indian romantic drama film directed by K. S. Sethumadhavan and written by Chakrapani. The film stars Lakshmi in the title role (in her Hindi film debut). It also stars Vikram Makandar, Nadira, Rita Bhaduri, Om Prakash, Utpal Dutt and Sridevi, in her first significant Hindi role. The film was a critical and commercial success. Despite the film's success, Lakshmi felt comfortable in choosing to do mostly South Indian movies.[1] Julie was also a musical blockbuster with critics alike and with award-winning music by Rajesh Roshan, which won him the Filmfare Award for the year. It had one of the first English songs in an Indian film, "My Heart is Beating", sung by Preeti Sagar.[2] It is a remake of a Malayalam blockbuster film Chattakari (1974), which also starred Lakshmi as the female lead making her Malayalam and Hindi film debuts in both versions respectively.[3] She would star in yet another remake, the Telugu film Miss Julie Prema Katha (1975). She didn't act in the Kannada remake, Julie, released in 2006, which had Ramya in the title role as Julie and Dino Morea as the leading man.[4] She also declined the role of Julie's mother in the Malayalam remake titled Chattakari (2012), stating that she wanted the audiences to remember her as the young and beautiful Julie; the title role went to Shamna Kasim.[5] Actress Urvashi portrayed the role of Julie in its Tamil remake Oh Maane Maane (1984). The remake and adaptation rights of this film are now owned by Glamour Eyes Films.

"Julie" is a 1975 hindi film which has Vikram, Laxmi, Nadira, Jalal Aga, Sridevi, Utpal Dutt, Rajendra Nath, Achla Sachdev, Sulochana, Reeta Bhaduri, Om Prakash, Umesh Sharma, Satyajit Puri, Anand, Uday Laxmi Shanti and Hamid in lead roles. This one often turns up as a recommendation when Rajesh Roshan's work gets mentioned. And rightly so, as it's a very good record. Unlike many other mid-70s albums I've posted, there's nothing particularly out there or jazzy or funky within its grooves; 'Julie' is simply a collection of really nice, well crafted songs. That tends to work too.

In terms of arrangements and general tone I find the record has more in common with contemporary European soundtracks than anything else, especially on the stunning instrumental 'Julie Falls in Love' which almost sounds Italian, and on 'Dil Kya Kare'. Maybe it's just the whistling on the latter that gives me associations to Morricone's frequent collaborator Alessandro Alessandroni. Regardless, it's a lovely track. So are both 'Yeh Raaten' (where have I heard that bit starting at around 1:22 before? Bacharach?) and 'Bhool Gaye Sub Kuchh'. I've heard it said (by some) that Lata Mangeshkar was past it by this point in time; I think these songs are perfect for her.

The best known track is Preeti Sagar's sweet, poppy 'My Heart Is Beating', which just about manages to stay on the right side of saccharine. It's one of those rare Bollywood songs that are sung completely in English. Like 'Bobby' from a few years prior, the film is a teen love story exploring inter-faith/inter-caste relationships; the titular Julie is from an anglo-Indian family.

A beautiful, mellow soundtrack.

Inheriting the melody from his father and orchestration from his gurus Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Rajesh created a fresh sound and with Julie (1975), he became the musician to watch out for. Raju, as he is called, is arguably one of the most melodious composers of the last few decades.

Working mainly with S D Burman and Shankar-Jaikishan, Neeraj wrote some delightful songs in films like Gambler, Tere Mere Sapne, Kanyadan, Sharmeeli, Chanda aur Bijli, Patanga, Lal Pathar and Kal Aaj aur Kal. Somehow branded unlucky, he was shunned by producers and he went back to teaching in Aligarh.

Struggling in the 1950s, he managed some hit songs in the 1960s with Kalyanji-Anandji -- Dulha Dulhan, Himalay ki God Mein and importantly Manoj Kumar's Upkar. Other important films were Saraswatichandra, Safar, Qurbani (Biddu's Aap Jaisa Koi), Purab aur Paschim -- and then in the 1980s he was in full flow.

Some of the popular songs of the 1970s and their composers were: Laxmikant-Pyarelal: Bindiya Chamkegi (Lata Mangeshkar, Anand Bakshi; Do Raaste), Jhoot Bole Kauva Kaate (Shailendra Singh, Lata Mangeshkar, Anand Bakshi; Bobby), Amar Akbar Anthony (Kishore Kumar, Shailendra Singh, Anand Bakshi; Amar Akbar Anthony), Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki (Lata Mangeshkar, Anand Bakshi; Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki), Mere Dil Main Aaj Kya Hai (Kishore Kumar, Sahir Ludhianvi; Daag), Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma Hai (Mukesh, Santosh Anand; Shor), Maar Diya Jaaye (Lata Mangeshkar, Anand Bakshi; Mera Gaon Mera Desh).

This is an actual surviving vintage original Bollywood movie poster of the 1975 romantic Hindi film that starred Laxmi & Vikram in lead roles. The film revolved around the life of an Anglo-Indian family and also starred Sridevi as a child star.

She also finds a small, inexpensive tape recorder useful for entertaining babies-on-the-go. She always packs a selection of favorite recorded songs and stories, and a blank tape or two on which children can make their own recordings along the way.''Of course, children can often entertain themselves with books and tapes,'' Mrs. Hagstrom says. ''But we find that what they enjoy most is having the total attention and the big, warm body of a parent close beside them. Snuggling up is, to a child, often the best part of the game he is playing. We feel we have really come to know our children through taking the time to sit down and play with them and through letting them feel that we are all exploring a wonderful world of sights and sounds together.''Two other young mothers, Joan Barnes and Susan D. Astor, have written a paperback called Gymboree (New York: Doubleday, $9.95). Mrs. Barnes, who lives in Mill Valley, Calif., with her husband and two children, is president of Gymboree Corporation, which operates 18 franchises in California cities, and also is publisher of Gymboree Gazette newsletter. Her coauthor, Mrs. Astor, a former nursery-school teacher, lives in Great Neck, N.Y., where she directs a parent-toddler program at the Gymnastics Center. Umberto Tosi's photographs of children in action are sheer delight and a rich addition to this book. The volume itself is about helping children from the ages three months to four years develop their abilities to perceive, understand, and act on the world around them. It describes a play-activity program for parents and children that stimulates natural learning in an environment designed with a balance beams, slides, tunnels, balls, rollers, scooters, hoops, and ladders.''I found there was little help for parents facing the special challenges of those early years, '' says Mrs. Barnes, ''so we opened our first Gymboree Center in northern California in 1975. We began to teach parents how to incorporate the games, songs, and other play activities that we demonstrated at Gymboree into their own home routines. We showed fathers and mothers how to share more fully the fun of their children's progress and growth.''The book talks a lot about ''sensory-motor learning'' which seems a mouthful when applied to such small people, but the idea is that children learn many physical and mental skills through play. Despite a certain psychological orientation, there is plenty to recommend the book, not the least of which are the words and music for dozens of songs that young children love. Information about centers and publications is available from Gymboree Corporation, 808 Burlway Road, Suite 207 , Burlingame, Calif. 94010.Since people of all ages love to play games, More New Games has been published by Dolphin for Doubleday & Co. in New York, in a $6.95 paperback edition. This book is from the New Games Foundation, PO Box 7901, San Francisco, Calif. 94110, an unusual nonprofit foundation established in 1974 to foster and communicate a style of play that focuses on participation, creativity , and community. The first ''New Games Book'' came out in 1975. This second volume is a sampling of the 60 best new games collected from more than a million players who have participated in training workshops, festivals, and tournaments conducted in citids across North America and in Europe and Australia. All the games involve some physical activity.New games described in this latest book include those with such engaging titles as Octopus, Space Chase, Data Processing , Cookie Machine, Yurt Circle, Mime Rhyme, Willow in the Wind, and Crab Grab.Nancy Kretz, present director of the foundation, says it is now supported by donations, sales revenues, and fees from training programs. A three-year grant from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation provided the seed money to develop the training program. The first New Games Trainers Conference took place at Marin Headlands in California in 1978. More than 14,000 people have now been trained in more than 100 cities across the United States. They not only teach others how to play but also emphasize a basic philosophical approach to recreation and play that is far wider than the boundaries of any game, says the foundation director.
