Hey BAIO:
It's been awhile since our last tour. We've been busy over the past months bringing together our first ever publication:
"The Container Guide", a pocket-sized field guide to shipping containers and the integrated logistics companies that run them.
Coming out of the research we did for that project - we have a neat, late-breaking opportunity to visit
Navis, an Oakland-based company specializing in the development of container terminal operating systems. They launched the very first one in the industry back in 1988, and have been doing it ever since.
They've set up an evening of great talks with their engineers for BAIO next Tuesday (6/16) at 6:00 PM at their headquarters in Jack London Square in Oakland. If you're interested in containerization and logistics, this one is for you!
Talk topics to include:
- The History of Container Terminal Shipping
- Types of Ports and Terminals
- Container Handling Equipment
- Terminal Automation
Speaker bios below. After the talks, we'll probably head out nearby and get some drinks. We've got slots for 20 people, first come, first served - drop us a line if you'd like to come along!
And, now that the book is done - we're ramping up tours/trips again, stay tuned.
-Tim
