We're putting together an afternoon of events to celebrate the birthday of Victor Gruen (July 18, 1903 - Feb 14, 1980), Austrian-born visionary architect most remembered for his pioneering work popularizing the enclosed, climate-controlled shopping center in the United States.
Festivities will include talks, tour, and reception at the Bay Fair Mall in San Leandro, which opened in 1957 as one of the first Gruen designed shopping centers in the country. You'll also get a commemorative set of Gruen lapel pins and a poster.
