Biography :
Dr LIM Sheau Chin obtained her BSc in Biochemistry from UKM in 2003. She later obtained her MSc and PhD in Pharmaceutical Technology from USM in 2006 and 2012. She started her research journey since 2003 working as a Research Assistant to Professor Emeritus Dr Yuen Kah Hay from School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, USM. Later, she became his Research Officer in 2006 to 2012.
After graduating from PhD, she was the R&D manager for Fuciphagus Agritech Sdn Bhd for 2 years before returning to USM as Post-doc researcher in 2014. In 2016, she was appointed as Project Manager for Hovid Bhd handling a project on Peptide. Currently, she is the General Manager for Avantsar Sdn Bhd (previously known as SOP Development Sdn Bhd), a subsidiary of Sarawak Oil Palms Bhd.
Dr Lim was co-investigator in multiple comparative bioavailability/bioequivalence (BA/BE) studies between 2003 – 2008. She also has experience in analytical method development and validation of drugs in biological samples and pharmaceutical preparations, technical skills in using analytical instruments (HPLC, LCMS, SEC, SDS-PAGE).
In the area of biotechnology, she has hands-on experience with multiplate reader, PCR, real-time PCR, gel documentation system and electrophoresis. She also has expertise in culturing human dermal fibroblast cells, human neuronal cells, liver cancer cells and Caenorhabditis elegance worms.
During her research career, she also handles animal studies for bioavailability of drugs via oral intubation, isolation of various organs for drug distribution study, toxicology study in mice and tissue isolation for microscopic assessment. She also involved in clinical trials involving patients from various hospitals.
While handling research in various areas, Dr Lim also involves in product development and biological activities studies. She has experience in extraction, characterization, biological activities evaluation and formulation of natural compounds into skin care products. Natural compounds studied include,“pokok kapal terbang”,bird’s nest, tocotrienols from palm oil, cordyceps etc.
