Hey, folks:

There's this amazing opportunity for serious "professional development" for Artists funded by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and given by Creative Capital:  http://www.lmcc.net/arts_services/summer_institute

Places are limited to 55 artists and are doled out by lottery.  Only open to NYC residents (so out-of-towners like me will just have to hear about it).  The 5-day workshop is July 27-31.  But keep in mind:  Deadline for registration is Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 11:59PM.  (Artists will be notified of their selection on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 via email.)

Creative Capital, as most of you probably already know, is seriously amazing.  I can't tell you enough how awesome this group of people are.  (I took their "Internet for Artists" workshop last month in Providence.)  The teachers are artists and super-smart and have thought a lot about what artists need.

Subject: Paramount Pictures film "Finchley Dreams"

Message Body:
Hi There,

Our office, Grant Wilfley Casting, is working on the upcoming Paramount Pictures feature film "Finchley Dreams". We are filming May 31st- August 24th in the NYC area. We are specifically seeking men & women of Arabic/ North African ethnicity for some of the featured roles. We are looking for a few specific things & were hoping maybe some the actors at the theater may interested in being submitted.

Some of the more featured roles are:
-Men, late 20s- mid 50s, to be part of a core group of entourage surrounding the main actor. This group will work quite a few days & will be very featured. There are no lines scripted but there is likely opportunity for upgrades.
-Men, 20s-30s, in great physical shape to portray Olympic runners.
-Men & Women, all ages, to portray scientists/ engineers.

If anyone is interested in being submitted they should email us a photo & contact info to f...@gwcnyc.com. Please write in the subject line "Noor Theater" so that we can easily identify your email.

We will also be holding an open call tomorrow Saturday May 21st @ Eastern Nights (Cafe & Hookah Lounge), 25-37 Steinway St. (between 25th / 28th Aves) Astoria, Queens.

Or we can set something up in our office where we can have people stop by our office to meet us & we can take a photo to submit to the Director.

Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Thanks,
Sabel

Subject: Greetings ...

Hello Leila -
It’s been a while.  I hope you are well.  In addition, to teaching at Rutgers, a few years ago I was appointed as the Producer of the Tony Award-winning Crossroads Theatre Company.  It’s been quite a ride.  My timing wasn’t so great – because the economy tanked when I took over.  But we’re surviving.

We are presenting our annual new play festival – GENESIS – next week.  There’s an interesting script entitled ABSOLUTION written by a British author.  We’re looking for an actor to play an Iranian immigrant.   He should be about 40/50 years old.  The play takes a parallel look at his life as well as a working class British taxi driver.  The Iranian owns a bodega (but was a doctor in Iran).

We will be rehearsing and performing in the same day – Saturday May 28th starting at about 10am  here at Crossroads in New Brunswick, NJ.

If you know of any actor who would like to participate in our reading, please let me know.

I’m including the Flyer so you can read about the show (and others if you’d like to make it down).

Thanks,
MJ
