About WORD BECOMES FLESH
Conceived and Directed by Marc Bamuthi Joseph / The Living Word Project (Oakland)
Running Time: 80 minutes
At The Public Theater 425 Lafayette Street
Presented as a series of letters to an unborn son, Word Becomes Flesh confronts fatherhood in urban communities and the mythology of the black male body—from cotton field to athletic field and all the spaces in between. Marc Bamuthi Joseph re-invents his 2003 solo piece for a new generation with an ensemble cast using spoken word, music and contemporary and hip-hop dance.
"Joseph's words can take an audience's breath away, then coax out sighs, exclamations of approval, and finally draw them to their feet." - The San Francisco Bay Guardian
About SONTAG: REBORN
SONTAG: REBORN draws from cultural critic Susan Sontag's journals, tracing her academic and personal journey from the age of 14 to her emergence as a singular public intellectual. InREBORN, single performer Moe Angelos' actions and words are magnified and transformed using a richly visual media environment to create an elegant portrait of a magnetic personality under careful construction. Formed in 1994 and led by director Marianne Weems, The Builders Association creates original theater works about life in the 21st century. Previous works include JET LAG, ALLADEEN, SUPER VISION, CONTINUOUS CITY and HOUSE / DIVIDED.
"The dazzling shows of The Builders Association make just about every other theater company look as if it's living in the past." -The New York Times (about 2010's JET LAG)

From: David Chapman <planet...@gmail.com>Date: January 5, 2012 11:13:53 PM ESTSubject: Opportunity with Planet Connections 2012 Festivity!Dear Colleagues,Greetings and happy 2012! I've recently signed on as Consulting Artistic Director for this year's Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, New York's premiere eco-friendly and socially conscious not-for-profit theatre festival. Entering its 4th season, the Festivity takes place every June at the Gene Frankel, Robert Moss and Bleecker Street Theatres in Manhattan. I'm very excited to join the team this year. I am charged with bringing in new artists and helping each production achieve its artistic goals. That process starts with you, so I hope you can either submit proposals yourselves (be sure to mention my name in the cover letter!) and/or share this message with your colleagues. I hope to help make 2012 the best season yet.A bit about Planet Connections: We accept all kinds of projects, including work for young audiences, dance/experimental work, musicals, remounts, solos, improv groups, and readings or productions of new plays. In addition to promoting green producing practices, Planet Connections encourages each production to partner with a local charity to raise funds, volunteer, and/or help the cause in some other creative way. The festival itself raises money for G.L.A.A.D., the Climate Project, and several other worthy organizations. In addition to this fantastic social justice / green angle, Planet Connections is one of the most affordable festivals in the city, with different financial plans for any budget. The application fee is only $30, and the participation fee ranges from $0 to $1000 depending on what percentage of the box office you would like to take, and other factors. Also, Planet Connections does not ask for any future royalties or ownership of any production (just a program acknowledgement).Selected productions receive between approximately 6 performances in June, plus press, marketing, technical, box office, management and many other kinds of support. Last year there were 37 productions and 17 readings plus several one-night-only special events, with reviews published in NYTheatre.com, Backstage, Broadway World, and elsewhere. The festival itself has been profiled in the New York Times, NY1, and the Sundance Channel.Applications are due January 27. Instructions, and many more details, are available at our website -- planetconnections.org. I hope you and/or your friends apply, and again -- be sure to mention my name in your application. Feel free to contact me with any questions. Thanks for your time, and again, best wishes for 2012!Sincerely,David________________________________
