The Flea Theater Now

Modeled
after The Flea Theater’s successful resident company of actors, The Bats (now in
its 16th season), this intensive residency program will allow a small team of
young directors to work, train and direct in support of The Flea’s season under
the supervision of Artistic Director Jim Simpson and The Flea Theater
staff.
An intensive full time Residency in Directing at a
leading Off-Off Broadway Theater, this unique program offers a deep hands on,
learn while you do it, practical entrance to contemporary theater directing and
production. The Resident Director program, while being open for all to apply, is
suitable only for outstanding young directors, demonstrating exceptional promise
and with a minimum of nine months to fully commit to the rigors of a real
theatrical environment.

Job Description: Assistant Director of Development
New Dramatists seeks
an arts professional interested in advocating for playwrights and playwriting,
to join its management team as an Assistant Director of Development. Reporting
to the Director of Development, the Assistant Director will assume primary
responsibility for Institutional Giving, including grant writing and reporting
to Foundation, Corporate and Government donors and prospects. The Assistant
Director will also manage organization special events and co-manage New
Dramatists' annual internship program. Position will provide opportunities to
learn board management skills and strategies in individual giving and major
gifts.
Bachelor's degree from a four-year university or college and a
minimum of three years' experience in arts administration, is required.
Excellent writing skills essential; grant writing, grants management, prospect
research and donor stewardship experience, strongly desired and preferred. The
successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, and preferably,
prior experience working with high-level constituencies (board members, major
donors, or other high-level clients.). Other requirements include excellent
organizational skills and the ability to self-start, quick-learn, and shift
priorities as needed to meet team needs. Sense of humor a must.
Extensive
experience with MS Office suite required. Proficiency with patron databases
(Blackbaud Raiser's Edge in particular) a plus.
The Assistant Director of
Development will join a stable and committed team of nine veteran arts
professionals who cooperatively manage New Dramatists' day-to-day
administration. Shared staff duties include various administrative management
assignments; occasional night/weekend duties; oversight of intern
work.
Salary commensurate with experience; excellent employee benefits,

Fall Voice Class for Working Actors
with Grace Zandarski
Voice and Text
This Fall’s class for working actors will
focus on breath, ease, range and resonance with particular emphasis on how to
apply these skills to text and auditions. Actors will explore a variety of
methods to embody text using a monologue or audition material of your choice.
Each student will have the opportunity to present his/her monologue and time is
built in for notes and critique. While this class is Advanced, new students are
welcome. Preference will be given to returning students.

Notes:
Actors should prepare a monologue to work on in class.
Classic or classic contemporary text is
recommended.
Audition sides or scenes are also welcome.

students should send a resume for consideration. A deposit of $100 is due by
August 15. The remainder is due on the first day of class unless other
arrangements are made. Refunds will be given on a pro-rated basis if actor gets

Grace Zandarski is an Associate Teacher of
Fitzmaurice Voicework and was certified in the first Fitzmaurice Training in
1998. Her Voice class is a unique combination of release work, breath
connection, ownership, classic voice training for the stage, and physical
exploration of text and character. She is a faculty member of the Acting
Department at Yale School of Drama where she has taught Voice for 10 years. She
was also on the faculty of The Actors Center and is a member of The Actors
Center Workshop Company. Recent vocal coaching credits include the
Broadway revival of Death of a Salesman directed by Mike Nichols, and A
Winter’s Tale at Yale Rep directed by Liz Diamond. Directing credits include
the recent Peer Gynt Project with Felix Ivanov. Grace is a graduate of The
American Conservatory Theater under Bill Ball, Ed Hastings, and Larry Hecht
(MFA in Acting) and Princeton
University (BA English).
