Hello lovely peeps!
I'm back in the city and so excited to be a part of these pieces. I truly love all four of these projects and hope you can come to all of them! But unless you're my stalker, that probably won't happen. :) BUT be assured any one of these plays will be worth your time in my humble opinion. It would be really great to see your faces, since it's been much much too long since I've seen most of you. I hope this reaches you all in great spirits!
Take care,
Lanna Joffrey

Shirin Neshat will present OverRuled, a highly stylized performance set in a courtroom which references historical and contemporary Iranian and Arab uprisings against various forms of dictatorship and theocracy. Drawing from her previous works Turbulent (1998), a musical duet between a male and female singer, and The Last Word (2003), a trail of a poet, OverRuled will feature actors, singers, and musicians including the Iranian actor Mohammad B. Ghaffari and Mohsen Namjoo, one of the most celebrated Iranian musicians today. OverRuled is directed by Neshat and written by Shoja Azari. Neshat's Performa Commission will also marks the tenth anniversary of RoseLee Goldberg commissioning the artist to create her first live work, Logic of the Birds, in 2001, an experience that eventually led to Goldberg establishing Performa.
The Strangest
by Betty Shamieh
Directed by May Adrales
November 14th @ 7:30pm
Midway through Camus's classic, The Stranger, an unnamed Arab is killed. Leaping from this moment and working backwards through possible histories of tangled romance, ethnic conflict and random violence, playwright Betty Shamieh crafts a new play inspired by this unknown character. Set in French Algiers, The Strangest is an absurdist murder mystery about three Algerian brothers who vie for the love of the same woman. Their bitter rivalry ends with one brother being inexplicably gunned down by a French stranger.
*All readings begin at 7:30pm at the 4th Street Theatre.
