Subject: [announce, cfp] Experiment: bitt significance and questions
To: Infobitt Daily Update <

On the Top Stories, I decided to do an experiment:
If you click through to the comments on the Top Stories, you will start seeing two comments from me. (1) A statement as to the significance of this particular news story, or my guess as to why it's important (it's only a guess; usually, reliably assessing significance requires a lot of background knowledge) (2) A number of questions that a more fleshed-out bitt would answer (in my opinion).
I've done this with the #1 story so far but will at least cover the current top five. That's my goal.
The experimental hypothesis tested is: pointing out these meta-issues will spark discussion, motivate contributors to re-rank bitts upon reflection, and add needed facts. The ultimate goal is to discover new community habits we can adopt that will improve news quality and make the community even more fun.
