Hi all,
now it seems to be final...So I think we should organize a protest here in Budapest.
Could we have a meeting on this this week? Maybe tomorrow?
All best,
Dalma2010/5/5 Jeney Orsolya <jeney....@amnesty.hu>
Hey JD and all,
(if you dont mind, I am also sending this email to the LGBT info list)
Photo op/protest is a great idea. My fingers are currently smoking from the speed of us typing to all sorts of media, organisations, Lithuanian Embassy, Internatioanl Secretariat, IGLIO etc. on what to do. The appeal is going to be decided tomorrow- so there is still a slight chance to have the pride happeneing. lets keep fingers crossed.
I just contacted (again) the Hungarian embassy in Lithuania and they told us that they are join other diplomats tomorrow at a consultation meetings as for what to do, so we'll keep you informed on whatever happens. its good to know on who can we count on!
Sign the petition in case you have not done so (http://www.amnesty.dk/balticpride) and please comment on our Facebook fan page (http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Amnesty-International-Magyarorszag/44847086574?ref=ts) so that we can raise more awareness on the issue!!!
thanks!

To all, quote: 'The global movement is asking all the participants in the Baltic Pride to come anyway to Vilnius.'Since it has been canceled and that people are still going to Vilnius to protest - perhaps the Office/LMBT group could organize a small photo-op/protest here in Budapest in solidarity. This will bring local media attention to the issue in Vilnius and will also prepare people for the Budapest Pride in July(?). We could do the same for Belgrade later.Although it seems the Budapest Pride is safe and protected now - I do not think we should assume this considering the changes in government happening in Hungary now. Also, I am getting emails from other organizations and efforts regarding the Bratislava Pride and organizing travel to it. What is being organized from AIhu and AIHu LMBT group? If AIHu is NOT organizing anything, this needs to be said publicly because people have been expecting this, if AIHu has recommendation of how to go, then this also needs to be said. Not communicating at all just leads people to confusion.Thoughts? More info?thanks,jd2010/5/5 Jeney Orsolya <jeney....@amnesty.hu>[Hungarian version edited out]
Dear All,I regret to inform you that the judge of the Regional Administrative Court of Vilnius has agreed this morning to freeze permission for the pride march on the ground of "security threats", despite Vilnius police's public statement by which there are no threats and they are ready to protect the march and previous statement by the President of the Parliament of Lithuania saying that the march should take place. Meanwhile, the Lithuania Gay League and Tolerant Youth Association have filed a complaint against the Attorney General - who has made the appeal to the Administrative Court - accusing him of illegal and discriminatory conduct.
The President of the Republic of Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaitė , already reacted publicly criticising the judge's decision, saying that she is astounded by the miscommunication between the different bodies on the risk assessment for the Pride, whilst underlying that the police is ready to ensure safety. She recalled that the Lithuanian Constitution guarantees the right to peacefully assembly and every lawful group / association has the right to freedom of expression.
AI is currently working on a letter to the President, and also considering an Urgent Action. We will keep you constantly updated about current developments and alternative plans for the day of the march.
The global movement is asking all the participants in the Baltic Pride to come anyway to Vilnius. AIHU will be represented by to activists. The planned human rights conference is still taking place on 7 May as well as the LGBT film festival (6-9 May). Maybe there is still an opportunity for the march to take place and we will develop alternative plans in case this opportunity is denied to protest against this outrageous violation of LGBT Lithuanian community's freedom of expression and freedom of assembly.
We want to thank you again for all the work and support you have undertaken and strongly encourage you to keep the pressure high. What it is happening in these hours in Vilnius clearly shows how much AI's support is needed.
Will keep you posted!
