I am unsubscribing for a month or so, and hope to rejoin you from
the National Air and Space Museum, where the Smithsonian is
ostensibly making me a researcher but undoubtedly planning to
hang me up among the other old vehicles later.
The NSF has just awarded me a grant to continue work on the last
part of my computing autobiography/history, covering the time
from mid-1959, where the book COMPUTER leaves off, to my last
Swiss adventures.
The grant was to me as an individual, not via NMSU or NASM, and
for a highly personal task rather than cutting-edge research --
doubly flattering. It is for two years.
The 18 months reading and posting here has been MOST rewarding.
I have already made several friends, and hope to make more when I
return.
Cheers! HERB GROSCH
