I just caught bits and pieces yesterday of something Dole supposedly said
his platform was going to consist of. Could someone please verify that he
really did say that one of his platform issues is going to be to work
strongly to make abortion illegal. Is he planning to make this the crux of
his campaign?

I seriously doubt it, but the person who is in charge of putting together
the platform is anti-abortion.

I was only half-listening to the news last night. Here's
what I think I heard: Dole will accept a platform plank in
favor of outlawing abortion, but he also wants the party's
platform to include something about being tolerant towards
other views on the issue.

My sense is that instead of taking a harder line, he is trying to at least
recognize that there are Republicans that are pro-choice. How far this gets
him, I don't know, but I gather there are many Republican women who are
pro-choice and that there is a gender gap in party affiliation. Muriel

Actually, yesterday Dole said he wanted to change the standard
republican platform on abortion so that women could receive
abortions in the case of rape, incest, or health problems.
However, he did affirm that he remains pro-life. What he will
say tomorrow is not clear.
