One-year temporary assistant professor---Western Illinois University is seeking
a candidate to fill a one-year temporary appointment in Physics beginning in
August 1996. We are looking for an individual with a Ph.D. degree and a strong
teaching background and commitment to quality undergraduate instruction.
Documented excellence in this regard will strengthen the application.
Experience in undergraduate laboratory development is a plus. Teaching
responsibilities will include a general education laboratory course in energy
and the environment and one section of third-semester calculus-based
introductory physics. Western Illinois University is a mid-sized state
university located in rural west central Illinois. The physics department
consists of eight full-time faculty and offers the B.S. and M.S. degrees in
physics. Support facilities include staffed machine and electronics shops, a
physical sciences library, and an extensive campus-wide computer network. A
complete application packet should contain: a letter of application; curriculum
vita; a copy of your transcripts; names, addresses, and telephone numbers of
three references; a statement regarding your teaching experience and philosophy;
and copies of student and peer teaching evaluations, if available. Candidates
should also arrange for letters of recommendation to be sent directly to WIU.
