Greetings:

We are about to embark on a project to upgrade the OS on
all of our workstations. We have several hundred HPs of
various flavors, and many Suns, primarily sun4m and sun4u.

We are upgrading to HPUX-10x and Solaris-2.5x.

Management has expressed a desire to manage the upgrades
with as little intervention as possible, over the network, and,
so far as possible, using the same procedure for all systems.

One plan is to boot the systems to the net remotely, configure
disks and then download (cpio, dd, tar, restore) a previously
created image of a standardized build.

I have seen jumpstart touted in this forum, but understand it will
not perform the HP builds.

I am asking for suggestions, but most specifically, why NOT execute
according to the plan mentioned? What are the pitfalls?

Thanks, Bill
