Hi,

Has anyone tried setting up DNS on OS/MP 4.1B?
Does yp has to be running first before DNS can work? I was
told that for SunOS 4.1.2 which is OS/MP 4.1B equivalent,
DNS can only work if yp is running.

Would appreciate if you could give us some pointers.
Configuration files seems to be OK to us.

Thank you.

Sure, we use it here. If you setup "/etc/resolv.conf", and if
you are running YP and add the "-b" flag in "/var/yp/Makefile", then
all programs will use DNS. Otherwise only programs you compiled with
"-lresolv" will use DNS.

If you don't want to run YP (I don't) then you have to replace
the shared libraries with a version that use DNS host routines instead
of YP-/etc/hosts ones. You can pick up instructions on replacing the
shared libraries and some patches to bind 4.8.3 from
"ra.mcs.anl.gov:/sun-managers/bindon41.shar". I've done this under
4.1A.3 and 4.1B with no problems.
