I run a few Linux webservers and I would like to start using MRTG to
track the network traffic on my aliased ethernet interfaces, but I have
NO IDEA (beyond "I know it CAN be done") how to setup the snmpd.* config
files to tell the system to "collect the data" and then "give it to
MRTG".
ANY help on this (point me someplace or tell me direct) would be of
great assistance
Thanks

Hi !
You have to install SNMP on your Server and Router. If you have a CISCO Router, have a look at your config and find the
line "snmp-server community public RO". Otherwise ask your Systemadministrator/ ISP if SNMP on a Router is enabled.
If this is done point your Browser to http://ee-staff.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/mrtg/mrtg.html. There`s all you need.
Hope this helps
