The last production version was 2.0.2 available from ftp.acns.nwu.edu in
/pub/nupop . There is an alpha test version of 2.1 available from the same
site. Since the NUPop project has been cancelled, no further work is being
done on NUPop.

We had hoped to move to 2.1 (from 2.02), since despite the cancellation of the
windows version it was said that 2.1 would at least `get through the door'.

Your recent comments imply that 2.1 has gone as far as it's going to
go, given current resources/time constraints etc. Has anyone put 2.1 into
any sort of service?

Thanks

As there is an incompatibility between 2.02 and 2.1 what about enclosures
as you can see in the included message below, it isn't recommended to install
2.1 if 2.02 still is in use from others.

I know about this problem. Some Day In The Future hopefully I'll have
time to fix it. In the meantime, turn off automatic uuencode reception
at Options/Preferences/Message/Receiving.

I just sent a uuencoded file to myself using 2.02 and received it correctly
with 2.1. Maybe what you meant to say is that it isn't recommended to
install 2.1 if 2.02 still is in use from others, *and* if your 2.1 users are
acquiring their mail from a Solaris 2.x server.

The other option, as Phil suggests, is to turn off the automatic decoding.
We have this turned off already, because NUPop's (2.0 and 2.1) uudecoding
chokes on files from MCI and Pegasus Mail, because a) they use blanks in
their encoding, b) our mail system truncates blanks at the ends of lines,
and c) unlike other decoding programs, NUPop's doesn't compensate for this.

Since 2.1 has the Message, UUDecode command to decode marked messages after
the fact, it isn't such an inconvenience to leave the automatic decoding
turned off.

yes, this is what I meant, however some users are acquiring from a Solaris
2.x server and some are not, so debugging is really a pain.

well, automatic decoding is just one of the features why users like Nupop.

the problem mentioned earlier also exists for Binhex enclosures and there
is no Un-Binhex command available.

PIB,
Will NUPOP 2.1 ever become production?
