NSF is currently operating under the 12th continuing resolution (CR)
of the year. This latest CR runs until April 24, 1996. Under this
resolution, NSF is funded at a rate consistent with the amount
provided in the FY 1996 VA-HUD and Independent Agencies appropriations
conference report ($3.18 billion).
A prorated portion of this amount is available for obligation for
grants (both new and continuing), contracts, cooperative agreements,
and all the other activities the Foundation normally undertakes to
support science and engineering.
NSF is hopeful that talks between the Congress and the White House,
which are ongoing at this time, will result in additional legislation
to provide appropriations sufficient to cover all NSF activities for
the balance of the fiscal year by the time the current CR expires.
