I've run out of Ideas and I hate Windows for this single but critical problem.
So far I've eliminated:
Setting DRIVPARM in config.sys
Removing SHARE.EXE from autoexec.bat
SMARTDRV.EXE settings
PIF settings
Internal set-ups in Word 6.0 or WP5.1 (in DOS box)
SET TEMP= directory settings in autoexec.bat
Calling WP and MS tech support who say I can't do it but
they don't know why.

>Yes, and if you call WordPerfect support, you get the same answer.
WPWIN and MS WORD for Windows both open work files on the floppy, and
save printer profiles, etc. What I did learn from WordPerfect
support, is that WPWIN (and even WP 6.0 for DOS) opens a temporary
file on the diskette. If you take out that disk and try to save to
another, it will not work if that temporary file is open.<<
What file?????
I suspect this is true, but you can never see the work files on the diskette
even while it's in use, with a document open. They must be hidden?

>>Yeah, I used to be able to do it , too. Of course, the tech support
folks think I'm crazy.<<

>>Good luck. If you get a fix, let me know.
