AppleScript Scripting

I need some help creating an AppleScript script. I was wondering if
someone out there could help a very novice scripter.
I'm trying to write a script which allows me to select certain files in a
folder based on their modification dates. I want to ve able to trash
files that are a week or more old. However, I can't get it to work.
I have a PowerMac 6100, system 7.1.2, AppleScript 1.1. I've also tried
this on a Mac IIci running ssytem 7.5 (to which I will be upgrading as
soon as my new RAM arrives).
