Hi folks,

A series of MIL-STDs to replace MIL-STD-1777, 1778, 1780,
1781, and 1782 are being prepared by the Data Communications
Protocols Standards (DCPS) Technical Management Panel (DTMP),
a US DoD standards body. The new MIL-STDs will state how DoD
will implement existing IAB STDs and RFCs. The DTMP recently
approved the first of these MIL-STDs for coordination.

Electronic copies can be obtained from DISA's Joint
Interoperability Engineering Organization (JIEO) Bulletin
Board. Telnet access to 26.14.0.104 or dial direct to
703-834-6501, N81. If you do not have an account on the
bulletin board, enter "BBS" at both the user and password
prompt to initiate an account application. To access the
standards, select "Standards Management," "DTMP and Working
Groups," "DTMP," and "Coordination." Telent users need to
have access to Xmodem, Ymodem, Zmodem, or Kermit file
transfer protocols from their Telnet applications to do
uploads and downloads from the BBS at the present time. The
standards are zipped Wordperfect 5.1 files. There are ASCII
files of the standard's cover sheets which will give you some
information about them.. File upload/download via FTP is
currently not available. The JIEO Bulletin Board Help Desk
number is 703-487-8338.

Comments are welcome. Comments should identify page and
line, make a suggested change, be designated essential or
suggested, and provide a rationale if essential. Military
services or DoD agency uniformed personnel, civilian
employees, or contractors need to direct comments through
their DTMP representatives by 23 Dec 93. Contact me for who
they are. Others can send their comments to me.
