Hi GRASS Community,

today I have uploaded the first release of new
TclTkGRASS V.1.1 to the GRASS 4.2.1 site:

http://www.laum.uni-hannover.de/iln/grass/grass42/

It is based on the L.A.S. tcltkgrass from 1994, but modified
and improved. We want to make it the new graphical user interface
for GRASS.

Please get either the

- source code

or
- Linux binaries (with tcltk 8.0 libs included)

Also we have an FTP-Server now. Get the address from that site.

So long for today

Thank you. I'm installing Linux today (Red Hat 5.0) specifically because
we want to use GRASS rather than MapInfo.

I have a large number of map coordinate system specifications (from my
DOS version of Idrisi) which could be of use in projection conversion
functions within GRASS. Let me know if you'd like copies.

We want to become proficient with GRASS as applied to environmental
issues affecting the mining industry. This means hydrologic modeling,
erosion potential calculations and other aspects of biology, ecology and
hydrology. We want to integrate XploRe (the statistics language) with GRASS
for spatial modeling and analyses. So, if we can help in the continued
development and expanded user base of GRASS, please let us know. We'll do
what we can to keep this system alive and growing.

Thanks again,

Rich

Hello all

First of all congratulations to Jacques Bouchard and Markus Neteler on the new
version. It is much improved over the old one and comes at a time when we were
starting our own tcltk interface from scratch.

What is the development status of tcltkgrass? We are interested in improving it
and possibly contributing to the development. Our main interests are making it
multi-lingual (text for pushbuttons, labels, etc - we have done this in our
interface), customizable menu items (for users own grass programs etc) and
having an interface to a database (we have a simple preliminary prototype based
on the old tcltkgrass version using the PostgreSQL database).

Who should I contact to discuss development of tcltkgrass, Baylor University or
Markus Neteler? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, since we compiled the floating point code before Baylor University took
over development, we did not bother downloading grass 4.2. Where can I find the
d.pan command? It doesn't seem to be on the Baylor FTP site or the CERL FTP
site. Do I have to download the entire 4.2 source to extract the d.pan code?

Thank you for your time.

yes, these copies are very welcome.

That is a great idea. Please send all your results to my email,
I am coordinating the current version of GRASS. I am not familiar with
XploRe but some more statistical software in GRASS would be nice.

Thank you very much

Most of the job was done by Jacques Bouchard!

The current status is the version you get from the GRASS 4.2.1 server:
-> tcltkgrass V 1.1

Great idea! This is what I am hoping for the future. The V1.1 shall be the initial
release for a new GRASS graphical user interface (GUI). There is high potential to
develop this package into a friendly, intuitive GUI for GRASS.

Please send all you suggestions to me:

net...@geog.uni-hannover.de

I will coordinate tcltkgrass the next time. Baylor's people are concentrated on
GRASS 5.0 (floating point raster).

The d.pan command is included in GRASS 4.2.1. I have added more than 30 modules.
Get GRASS 4.2.1 from

http://www.laum.uni-hannover.de/iln/grass42/

There is also a list of included modules and certainly a development
history text (and more...).

Many greetings from
