I know that 8 x 57 I is still being made (both by RWS and Sellier &
Bellot), and I suppose that the same is true for its rimmed sister.
But to give a meaningful answer, I shall have to look it up at home.
As to the caliber: the 8 x 57 IR is loaded to slightly lower
pressures (and therefore, performance) than the 8 x 57 IRS for the
simple deliberation that most of the (combination) weapons in the "I"
calibre are older and not always of strong breech design.
The problem is rather the bullet choice: only round nose soft point
bullet in .318 are available (12,8 grams, I think), whereas there
is a larger choice of designs in .323.
The cartridge itself is excellent and versatile, comparable to the
.303 British, and probably above the .30-40 Krag.
Plenty of data are given in the RWS/DNAG and in the DEVA reloading handbook.
PS: There is also a 8 x 57 R 360 (once popular in combination gun) which
has rather different case dimensions; I hope yours is not that one.
The old 8 x 57 R 360 (of British origin) is also much more tricky to reload.
