//// Self-Protection with Firearms \\\\
------------------------------------------

Special Summer Offer

------------------------------------------

June 22nd and 23rd
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA

Have you been thinking about getting a gun
for self-protection, or do you already have one?

This course is designed to help you decide whether or not this is
the right option for you, and to provide you with the vital training
you need if you do choose to keep a gun for protection. A graduate
wrote: "This course is a rational, sensitive, realistic way to be
introduced to a life-saving skill! High on choices, low on
emotionalism and politics." The course is presented by AWARE, a
charitable group teaching women effective means of self-protection.
This course is also open to men.

You and a friend can share this learning experience by taking
advantage of our two-for-one summer special.

Topics will include: overcoming cultural conditioning and prejudice
against "fighting back;" the moral, ethical, and legal issues involved
in using firearms for defense; advantages women have in violent
confrontations; safety; equipment selection; tactics; concealed carry
for women; what to say to an attacker; how to hold an attacker at
gunpoint; how to interact with the police afterward; consequences of
using a firearm; and much more. There will be a combination of
lecture, discussion of actual and hypothetical situations, and
hands-on range work.

The course will be taught by Lyn Bates, who is Vice President of
AWARE, a certified firearms instructor, Contributing Editor of Women &
Guns magazine, and a member of the staff at Massad Ayoob's
internationally respected Lethal Force Institute. Lyn was the High
Lady Shooter at the 1992 Second Chance Street Combat Shoot, and she
competes annually in the prestigious National Tactical Invitational.
On top of all this, Lyn utilizes her PhD in applied mathematics as a
manager of a computational linguistics research group.

You should already understand basic handgun safety and marksmanship.
Registration in advance is required. Reserve your space by sending a
copy of your FID or firearms license and a $20 deposit to the address
below. You are encouraged to bring your own handgun, but to do so you
must notify AWARE beforehand.

You will need to bring paper and pen or pencil for note taking, a
baseball-type cap, and lunch.

If you have any questions, please call the number below for more
