On the evening of May 15th, 1995, Aaron Davis, and his fiance, Julie,
got off work and were harassed by a gang of four intoxicated young men as
they walked through the North Orchard Park in Vacaville, California. One
of the young men physically wrestled with Julie. Aaron was able to break
up this confrontation and the hassle was over with a handshake.

Aaron and Julie then continued through the park to the other end and
sat on the grass. Shortly thereafter, two of the gang rushed out of the
bushes and attacked them from behind. Aaron defended Julie and himself
with a Swiss Army knife resulting in the wounding of one of their
attackers and the death of the other.

It was later said that the two attackers had intended to rape Julie
after knocking Aaron unconscious.

The Vacaville Police and the District Attorney, both concluded that
Aaron acted in self-defense within the law. No charges were filed against
the attacker who survived.

After the incident in North Orchard Park, Aaron, his family, and
Julie, all received death threats. During the next two months, the
Vacaville Police moved Aaron to a safe-house outside of Solano County for
his safety. Aaron finally returned to his job at the supermarket, only to
be threatened in person with being killed. Aaron was forced to give up
his job.

Shortly thereafter, on July 19, 1995, 10:20 p.m. Aaron and Julie were
followed by Michael "Sonny" Schairer, a close friend of the man who was
killed in the park when Aaron was forced to defend himself and his
fiancee. Schairer was driving east bound on East Monte Vista in Vacaville
when he recognized Julie's VW Bug going in the opposite direction on their
way home to Aaron's house. Schairer made an immediate u-turn and began
following the VW Bug. After the VW turned onto a narrow two lane country
road, Schairer's vehicle began tailgating the VW with his high beams on.
The VW, with Julie driving, came close several times to driving off the
narrow road due to the blinding high beams of the tailgating car. She ran
two stop signs and was driving in excess of 50 miles per house in a 25
mile per hour zone attempting to evade the pursuers. Instead of taking a
right turn to go to Aaron's home, she went straight. The tailgating car
turned right and parked on the wrong side of the street angled in towards
a large rock garden. Schairer got out of his vehicle and picked up a two
pound river rock. He told one of his passengers to get behind the wheel
and to cut off the VW Bug as Aaron and Julie had to come back past them
for Aaron to go home. Schairer knew where Aaron lived.

Both Aaron and Julie thought the tailgaters were gone until she
turned toward Aaron's home and saw the red tailgating car parked on the
left side of the street. The headlights were on, the engine running, and
the driver was standing in the headlights holding a large river rock. As
Julie approached the tailgating car, it swerved into her path. Julie
swerved around it to the right, narrowly avoiding a collision. Schairer
threw the rock at Julie and Aaron's head. They ducked as the rock barely
flew over the top of the VW Bug.

Julie and Aaron raced on and stopped on the Court, a block and a half
away from where Aaron lived, so as to not lead the attackers to Aaron's
home. After they stopped and looked down the street, the man who had
thrown the rock was sneaking up on them behind parked cars. Aaron yelled
"Run Julie, run!". Aaron ripped open a locked fanny pack, extracted his
.40 Glock, and began to run after Julie. Within seconds his attacker was
running upon them holding his right hip "like a cop holding his weapon
when he runs." Schairer gave the appearance of having a weapon.

Aaron warned the attacker several times to "Get the hell out of
here!", "Get back!", but their attacker kept chasing after them to the
front door of Aaron's house. Julie pounded frantically on Aaron's locked
front door, and Aaron was right behind her. As Aaron turned to face the
unknown attacker, who was now in Aaron's driveway running toward them, the
man grabbed for something on his right hip and said "I'm gonna..." and
Aaron fired one shot into the man's chest.

Julie ran to the fallen man and asked "Do you have a gun?". Aaron
and Julie thought the man had a gun and that he intended to kill them. No
gun was found. Aaron was arrested and charged with murder, which is
punishable by 27 years to life in prison.

The police found the two pound river rock on the lawn where Aaron and
Julie said Michael "Sonny" Schairer had thrown it at their heads. The
owner of the lawn where the rock was found, said the rock was not there
earlier that evening, as she was there and would have noticed the rock had
it been present. The California Department of Justice is examining the
river rock for fingerprints.

Aaron Eugene Davis, as a life member of the National Rifle
Association, symbolizes the right of every American to stand his ground
and defend his home, his fiancee, his family, and himself with the use of
a firearm if necessary. Too much emphasis goes into to protecting the
rights of the criminal and not enough for the protecting the law abiding
citizens such as Aaron Eugene Davis.

If you feel as I do, that the right of self-defense should be
preserved in this State and throughout the Nation, then I ask for your
help on behalf of Aaron Eugene Davis. He has lost his job as a clerk in a
local supermarket, and his parents have been forced to sacrifice their
retirement home to pay for his legal expenses. Aaron is now held without
bail in the Solano County Jail awaiting trial for Murder in the 2nd
degree.

Legal expenses are for more than attorney fees: Investigators,
research, expert witnesses, photography, video reenactment, etc., are all
included in his legal bill. If you would like to send a contribution to
the AARON DAVIS LEGAL DEFENSE FUND, please mail your check or money order
