Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some "IC Master" wisdom on a unique scheduling situation. We have a student who has finished his HS requirements early and is taking a 12-credit college EMT program. Our admin wants this to count for 2.0 HS credits on his transcript.

Our standard schedule is 8 periods, and our typical courses (including dual credit) are only .5 credits. Admin suggested placing "EMT" in his schedule 4 times to fill the seat time and reflect the credit value.

I’m planning to use course codes 44060 (EMT I) and 44065 (EMT II). My questions for the group:

  1. Section Setup: Is it better to create two separate courses and have each section occupy two periods (using the "Periods" checkboxes in Section setup), or is there a cleaner way to award 2.0 credits without cluttering the schedule with four identical entries?

  2. Credit/Grading Tasks: Since we usually only do .5 credits, how would you suggest setting up the Course/Grading tasks so that the transcript reflects the full 2.0 credits correctly upon posting?

  3. State Reporting: For those in Kansas (KS), have you run into any "minutes" or "FTE" issues when a single course covers 4 periods of the day?

I'm not as advanced as some of you, so any step-by-step advice is greatly appreciated!

TIA,

Hi Leslie,

We have A LOT of classes that earn 2.0 credits per semester and no problem with state reporting or minutes. I've attached a picture of the grading task set up - only semester is important for credit on the transcript part. Also in the file is a picture of how the section is scheduled. This building has a block schedule but that doesn't really matter for your purposes. Whoever builds the section (counselor?) will just mark the periods the kid is gone.

It does sound a bit like you will want two courses of 1.0 credit each if you are going to use both course codes?

Let me know if you have more questions after looking at the pictures.
