I just downloaded the app and uploaded a gedcom file but can't get anything to show. Its probably something obvious but what could I check?

Hello Peter,

If nobody has been defined as the "start person", nor marked as a bookmarked person, in the gedcom file, then you need to search for then select the start person in the first tab of the inspector window.
If nobody can be found, then maybe there is a problem parsing the gedcom file; can you send me your file by private email, so I can identify and fix the problem? I will then delete your file.

This was due to a problem importing files from Ancestry.com. This will be fixed in release 1.0.3.

I just downloaded the app as well. I'm trying to create a new file from scratch. Do you have a user manual or quick tutorial on how to use the software?

Sorry, there is no manual yet.
This application can't create new family trees from scratch; it can only
display an alternate family tree representation from a database you
created in some other genealogy application or online platform. To do
so, export your existing database to a gedcom file, then import it in
Infinite Family Tree Drawer.

Really? That's pretty disappointing. I was looking forward to creating elaborate fictitious genealogies for stories, or a character's backstory in a TTRPG, or divine family trees for homebrew pantheons. 

Any tips on specific online platforms where one might actually create these family trees?

RootsMagic and Ancestral Quest have free versions that also run on macOS I believe.
