Myofascialcupping is a soft tissue therapy that involves the application of decompressed cups on the skin, creating a vacuum effect that lifts up underlying tissues such as the fascia (connective tissue), muscles, blood and other fluid, close to the surface of the skin.

Using remedial massage techniques, areas of muscular restriction and tension are located and myofascial cupping techniques are then applied by moving the cups in a gliding motion over the surface of the skin or, where fascial adhesion and trigger points are found. The cups may be left on specific areas for short periods of time to reduce or eliminate those adhesions or trigger points. Cupping therapy is still very effective even if the cups are not left in place for very long.

Myofascial cupping also has an effect on the lymphatic system. The cups are said to help draw toxins out of the muscle fibres and to increase blood flow toward the region by reducing tension, pain and tenderness to the affected muscle. Range of movement and mobility are improved by directly reducing any fascial adhesions, increasing the tissue temperature and the decreasing the viscosity of the tissues.

We also offer acupuncture, cupping, herbal formulas and other Traditional Chinese medicine modalities. To maximize the experience, we offer personal retreats for individuals and small groups in the serene setting of a quiet beach town on the California Central Coast.

Oriental medicine is one of the oldest continuous systems of medicine in history, with recorded instances dating as far back as 2,000 years. Acupuncture is the most widely known type of treatment in this system. The National Institutes of Health recognize the usefulness of acupuncture in treating addiction, fibromyalgia, headaches, cramps, back pain, osteoarthritis, carpal tunnel, asthma and much more.

At the Solana Beach clinic, acupuncturists Trevor Fox, Gavin Garcia, and Michael White utilize this ancient system of medicine in conjunction with massage therapy to optimize the health and recovery time of their patients. Acupuncture, herbology, nutrition, cupping, gua, sha, moxibustion, exercise, qigong, tai chi, and meditation are all tools used to enhance patient wellbeing and are expertly tailored to meet the needs of each individual.

Myofascial decompression (MFD) and cupping are two therapeutic techniques that are often used for manual therapy. This can be performed by anyone from physical therapists to a massage therapists. While they may appear similar in some ways, they are fundamentally different techniques with unique benefits and uses.

MFD is a soft tissue mobilization technique that involves the application of negative pressure to the skin and underlying fascia using specialized cups. The cups are applied to specific areas of the body and are designed to create a lifting and separating effect on the tissue, which helps to release tension and improve circulation. MFD is often used to address musculoskeletal pain, improve range of motion, and promote tissue healing.

Cupping, on the other hand, is an ancient therapeutic technique that involves the application of cups to the skin to create a suction effect. This technique is based on the belief that applying suction to the skin can help to stimulate the flow of blood and energy in the body, which can help to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and improve overall health. Cupping is often used to treat a variety of conditions, including back pain, muscle tension, and respiratory problems.

While both MFD and cupping involve the application of negative pressure to the skin, there are several key differences between the two techniques. For one, MFD is designed to specifically target the fascia, which is a layer of connective tissue that surrounds and supports the muscles, bones, and organs. Cupping, on the other hand, is a more general technique that can be applied to a wider range of areas on the body.

Another difference between MFD and cupping is the intensity of the suction. MFD typically involves the use of cups that are placed at a higher level of suction, which can be more intense than the suction used in cupping. This increased intensity is designed to help release deeper layers of fascial tension and promote healing.

The real beauty in people is not found in perfection it is found in how we choose to heal our brokenness. I often use the image of Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending it with gold. The healing process makes us more beautiful and more valuable than a vessel that has never been injured. Therapy is a process of mending. In my mind therapists are here to help you find all your scattered and broken pieces, figure out how they should fit together, and help you fortify yourself with grace and compassion. In the end my hope is that our clients do not see themselves as scarred by past trauma but instead see themselves as powerful, beautiful, and whole.

Throughout my extensive education and training in the field of psychology I have become conformable utilizing several theoretical orientations in an integrated and flexible way. I often work with clients with various trauma disorders including PTSD and Prolonged Grief Disorder, as well as Anxiety and Depression. I hold a supportive space for neurodivergent individuals and am a proponent of the neurodivergent model, which holds neurodiversity (ADHD, Autism, AuDHD, etc.) as part of the natural spectrum of human diversity. When working with neurodivergent clients I focus on both skill building and psychoeducation to support individuals, couples, and their families.
