Ihave a Dell PC and it is new & updated. I have all expansions on the Sims 4 except for Island Living and multiple smaller add-on packs. I had no other problems with the Sims 4 except for smaller menu option while playing in-game. I have already tried contacting multiple EA technical support staff members, but they all cut my questions off short, and none of them helped solve my problems. In the game, I can only create Sims or a new household. Once I complete the household, it saves and takes me to the screen where I am supposed to choose which season I want a given household to start in. I can only go this far in the game, due to the fact that I cannot choose a season to continue with that given household. I have tried working on this issue for many days, and I am not sure what I can do at this point. I have tried clearing the cache under the "ProgramData" folder with the file titled "Origin", but it said that I could not delete the file due to it being used in another program. I looked under task manager, and it said that there were no apps running at the time. I then tried uninstalling Origin and installing it again. I then tried restarting my computer and attempting to fix up my internet settings. Then, I tried going under "Application Settings" to disable Origin In-Game.
@choppe101
Have you tried to repair the game in Origin?
Change the name of folder The SIms4 to The Sims4old in Documents and try to launch the game. The new game folder should be created and you will have two. One old and one new.
Check if you still have this error in the new, virgin game folder.
The new Origin update was yesterday. Did you do this update?
You can try this way, however, it was a different problem with Origin blocking access to the Gallery. Check if you can open Gallery in the game. If you can't do it there is a chance that this way will work and your problem with the game is related to this issue
But if you can open the Gallery don't do it!
I assume you have a Win10 system
This is the EA advice but it is related to the Gallery problem, although it concerns Origin
Hold down the Windows Key and press X.
Click Administrator: Windows Powershell.
When the command prompt opens, type ipconfig/flushdns and press Enter.
Type ipconfig /registerdns and press Enter.
Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.
Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.
Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.
Once you complete this please complete the following steps mentioned below and your issue should be resolved.
Open the Start menu and search for msconfig.
Click on System Configuration.
Click the Services tab.
Check the box to Hide all Microsoft Services, then click the Disable All button.
Click on the Startup tab, then click on Open Task Manager.
It can take a few seconds for the Task Manager list to load.
Click each of the Startup programs in the list then click the Disable button.
Close the Task Manager window.
Click OK on the System Configuration window to save your changes, then restart your computer.
Once you restart your computer, try launching your game again.
I don't work for EA
I have tried repairing the Sims 4 under the Origin application, but it did not seem to work.. and regarding to what you said "Change the name of folder The SIms4 to The Sims4old in Documents and try to launch the game. The new game folder should be created and you will have two. One old and one new.
Check if you still have this error in the new, virgin game folder." :
So I'm having a weird bug here. My Gardener, who is an Adult can not garden normally. There are plants that I have that are out of season and they need to be weeded and sprayed from the bugs to go away. But my Sim can not do it, as there's no option to do it.
I updated my mods and Curseforge is showing no mods to be needing updated.
I submitted a picture to show what it's says/looks like
I don't work or have any association with EA. I give advice to the best of my knowledge and cannot be held responsible for any damage done to your computer/game.
Please only contact me via PM when asked to do so.
Started having this issue as well ever since the latest patch, and it occurs on both console and PC. FYI, another workaround if you happen to have Spellcasters in your game, their gardening spell does still work on the weeds even when no option appears to tend the garden manually.
So recently, with some plants, if they're not in season I can't do anything with them. I can't weed, water, spray bugs, or evolve them. I cant do anything with them. I can uproot them, but that's it. Dose anyone else have this problem? If so how can I fix it, or is it a bug? Let me know. Thanks
There was some sort of a change with the patch prior to For Rent that started this. I am seeing the same things you describe. I don't think there is anything we players can do about it. I have found though, if you have other in season plants close by that need care, if you use the tend all, water all, or weed all options that the sim will take care of the out of season plants too. And you can always move the plants to be under a shelter, then they can be tended and will bear harvestables year-round.
Can we put in a patch request for the Sims to autonomously change clothes to reflect the 'cold weather' or 'hot weather' clothing assigned to them? They automatically change to the other outfits - workout, swimming, sleeping, formal, etc. - when appropriate to the activity type are engaging in...
But... if you don't happen to catch them and make them (successfully) change to to hot or cold weather clothing once winter or hot weather summer arrives, at some point they will suddenly be blue saying they are about to freeze to death - or the opposite in summer, they are about to boil to death.
For example, in the current household I'm playing, I keep having this particular Sim I'm working on skills for change into his winter clothes because he's uncomfortable due to to the cold, and he just took a shower and came out in his default clothes (not winter clothes)... so here we go again. Grrrr... On the other hand, there's another guy in the household running around in his PJs (tanktop) and he has no complaints. Go figure. On the other hand, sometimes a Sim will automatically do the Houdini spin and change into their cold weather clothes as soon as they're heading outside. It all seems rather random to me.
@SheriGR, yes, I've noticed the same thing! I would be nice to have them change automatically for the weather -- sometime they do, but other times they don't and I can't figure out why! While I do play with autonomy on, I tend to micromanage my Sims , so it isn't a big deal unless I'm playing a large household. However, I can see people who aren't such control freaks with their Sims having a big problem with this!
@jmeadowbrook, excellent point! Unfortunately, at least in my case, I've only bought one of those rewards once (and it was by accident when I was trying to buy another reward! ) But I'm sure your info will be helpful to others! @SheriGR, have you happened to have bought any of the temperature related rewards yet?
In playing some more since the last time we discussed this I have noticed that at least in some of the cases is depends on what "cold" and "hot" are perceived as. What I mean is that there is no "neutral" on the thermometer, but that a slightly cold or slightly hot temperature will be perceived by Sims as being relatively neutral, even if the thermometer looks to us as if it is cold or hot. In these cases my Sims will never change to their cold or hot weather clothing but will always stay in their Everyday clothing. But when the thermometer shows a more extreme cold or hot temperature, they usually will change clothing. So, I think (at least for me) that I was seeing the temperature as cold or hot when it was really just cool or warm. This probably counts for at least some of the times our Sims aren't changing into their cold or hot weather clothing.
@PugLove888 -- I was noticing some quite a few times when sims were quite distressed yet did not change to the winter clothes (and where I even got the '______ is freezing to death' warning, etc... And where I would make them change to the appropriate clothing and as soon as they showered, exercised, etc., I was back where I started from...
Unfortunately I have not been noticing much either way recently since I have been mostly building then briefly testing... plus I ticked the box (in settings) to reduce effects of weather on my sims. It was too distressing the way this was happening. When they adjust it I'd love to know so I can untick that box. I don't trust it currently. I am a bit freaked out by blue sims (freezing, not aliens ) and them possibly dying from this.
@SheriGR, yes, I'm still getting at times some Sims that get either way too hot or way too cold and don't automatically change into the appropriate clothing. I was just adding that it didn't happen as often as I first thought, due to my interpreting the thermometer to read hot or cold and not the more neutral temps of cool and warm.
My guess as to why some Sims sometimes don't change into the correct clothing is that something hijacks their attention right at the moment when they should be changing clothing, kind of like when Sims sometimes act like they are holding a plate or umbrella when they have finished with those items. But I'm not sure about this.
@PugLove888 Yes, gotta love those (sometimes seemingly random) moments when all of a sudden they skip one or more of the 'commands' in their feed... or all are wiped out because of a number of things. (Hungry, work, not enough fun, pet wants a hug, tense, ...'Oh, hey... is that a chicken?' ...well, sometimes it seems nearly that random.)
