On February 4th, Facebook celebrates 14 years of coming online. For me, I'll celebrate 11 years on the network, and take stock of my love-hate relationship with the platform that's now going through a sea-change.

I remember when Facebook's attraction was that it had a better interface than Orkut (remember that?), and allowed users to easily chat with friends, "poke" them, and even have fun side conversations privately.

Six months ago I took a break from all forms of social media, because it'd made me an entirely asocial, fake virtual-person who'd lost connection with her own self. It's tough when you've been left feeling inadequate by the "perfect" lives, emotions, and pictures paraded on Facebook and its sister platform, Instagram.

Cutting off felt great. I breathed deeply again, identified emotions as I felt them, sat with my uncomfortable anxieties instead of distracting myself, wrote in actual books with actual pens versus virtual walls, heard people's stories in their own voice (and not a garbled bunch of text in a box), noticed my communities' ugly moments, and heard my neighbors' pleas for a patient ear. I felt liberated.

I haven't yet graduated to sharing pictures of myself or my trips or food because I'm still trying to figure out what sharing pictures and videos does for me. My time's precious to me, so I'd best understand what I'm getting in return for it.

So, here are a few suggestions for Mosseri and his team to consider as they consider their new task of both connecting communities, opinions and views, while also challenging community beliefs and biases.

Oooooooops! Tunnel vision will get you every time. Since I don't have a Facebook account I can't help further. Back in the day (about 4 years ago) I vaguely remember Control (right) - clicking on the image and selecting "Save to" from the contextual menu which was the Desktop and then imported from there.

I've been saving photos from Facebook for as long as I've had Facebook (years and years). You open the picture (so not on your home page feed - click on it to open the photo) then right click on the photo and the task box pops up with the Save As option and we always just save as Photos and they drop in. My iMac still works just fine and I have no problem. But Mom is getting the error I mentioned above. She hasn't updated so nothing changed and she was doing it for well over a year with no problem.

The first thing I did on the day my blog went live was to announce it to my friend via a simple Facebook post. To be entirely transparent, I felt awkward self-promoting myself and a bit scared of putting myself out there at the same time.

Inviting your friends to the page is a great way to personally reach out to them ( most of them will probably never see the post in their busy timelines). If they are truly interested in your content, they will like it and allow your posts to be shown in their news feed.

More often than not, people look you up using your name, instead of the blog name (especially if you were featured somewhere else online). So this makes sure they can find a direct link to your blog, as well as your official Facebook page.

Undeniably, most of my Facebook traffic comes from participating in blogging support groups. The concept was such a strange idea to me until recently, when I came across a blogging and business group founded by Melyssa Griffin.

Not only did I discover a super sportive community, made some awesome connections, and learned so much from other bloggers, but I was able to promote my blog, help others with my content and replies and get massive traffic from participating in daily threads.

I follow the rule of 20% creation and 80% promotion for all my blog posts. Therefore I only post a couple of times a month but I promote my content massively. I tend to spend anywhere between 5 minutes and 30 minutes a day in these groups, interacting and promoting my blog while also learning, and it obviously pays off!

So far I have created adverts for some of my most popular blog posts and opt-ins (to get people on my email list so I can continue the conversation with them there) and have boosted random posts to get more traffic to certain blog posts and increase my fanbase on Facebook.

I am going through the course as we speak and have learned so many new things that will help me spend my money wisely in the future because I truly believe that Facebook ads are a great way to reach people and even retarget those who have been on your website before.

Building a community on Facebook that you can easily reach and connect with is so important! By creating a group, you are creating a safe space for people to come together and share their frustrations. And you can be the one to help them find a solution.

So instead of joining communities run by experts, you get to curate your own. Groups are generally much easier to grow than Facebook pages, because people are more likely to join to see the exclusive content, rather than like pages.

Totally! I agree that marketing and promotion are as important as good content. Acquaintances and friends would usually be the one to like and share your posts, but one has got to start somewhere, right? ?

Very true! In terms of engagement, people who know and trust you are so much more likely to share your content and interact with it, so until you build a loyal readership you should focus on reaching out to people you know.

This is such a great post babe! I used to be down on myself cos the only traffic I was getting to my blog (well thats what I believed) was coming from these FB groups, but I see it as something so positive now and see how it spreads the word. Such great tips babe!! xx

I am in the process of moving a FB and Instagram page from the current FB Business Manager account to another one. I am having an error because an active Facebook Commerce account is linked to the FB and Insta pages.

When you deactivate your commerce account, you remove it and all Shops connected to your account. Your Facebook Pages, Instagram profiles, catalog, ad, and business accounts will no longer be connected to your commerce account.

Thank you kindly for the insight @benceunybrands this will be extremely helpful moving forward. Please do let us know if removing the FB channel entirely resulted in a deactivated Facebook Commerce account.

Hello, I tried to delete my Shopify Product Catalog in Commerce Manager, however, I encountered an ERROR message "Oops, something went wrong. Please try again later." Do you know how to solve this issue? Thanks in advance.

Clear your cache and cookies - When you use a browser, like Chrome, it saves some information from websites in its cache and cookies. Clearing them fixes certain problems, like loading or formatting issues on sites.

We're having the exact same error, no deactivate button visible and an unexpected error when trying to delete the catalog. Any help would be appreciated, seems like the link between shopify and facebook is still somehow active despite having deleted the FB channel.
