Hello ,

I'm doing a scientific initiation about Vehicular Networks and I'm using the INET Framework with the OMNeT++. Now me and my group are simulating video streaming transmission with TCP, UDP and DASH (an application about video streaming based on TCP) in AD HOC Networks. We are comparing the results of the simulations to analyze what is better in some cases.
I'm want to try to contribute with the INET Framework submitting our project as an example (in adhoc folder, for example).

How can I do it ? I already read the description page on https://inet.omnetpp.org/ContribGettingStarted.html , but i'm confused.
To submit our example I should to fork the INET repository and create a new folder into the examples folder and put there my project, or fork the INET repository and put my project in the root of the repository?

Thanks !!

Best regards,

Anderson Andrei :)

Hi,

Thanks for thinking about contributing to INET! I think it would be best to start with showing us first what you have right now. This would allow us decide if your contribution should be included or not, and if it should then how and where. This would save time for both you and us, because there are many options and without knowing more it's hard to say.

Best regards,
levy

Hi !

Thanks for answer !
How can I show you what I have right now? If I should do it describing the project :

Our scenario is about video stream transmission using TCP, UDP and DASH

  • Our total area is about 1000 x 700 m and the video transmission has 90s .
  • To TCP server we used the GenericSrv application existent and to the client we adopt an video stream application. To UDP we used UDPVideoStreamSvr/Cli existents. And to DASH we adopt an application by Navarro Joaquim repository on GitHub (https://github.com/navarrojoaquin/adaptive-video-tcp-omnet). The TCP video stream client above we adopt by DASH too.
  • We put our adaptations (DASH and TCP video stream client) in inet/applications/tcpapp

  • We used 50, 100 and 150 hosts with mass mobility with 3 and 6 m/s. So we have simulations:

TCP_50hosts_3ms

TCP_50hosts_6ms

TCP_100hosts_3ms

TCP_100hosts_6ms

TCP_150hosts_3ms

TCP_150hosts_6ms

And the same to UDP and DASH.

Best regards,

Anderson Andrei :)

Thanks, I've looked at the github repository and the application looks ok at a glimpse. Unfortunately, we don't plan to release new versions of INET 3.x, because development is stopped in this branch. Therefore it would be nice to port the application to the latest INET 4.0 (3.99.2 as of writing or INET integration branch) preview before submitting a pull request. Your example could be put under examples/wireless/video, and the application should probably be put under src/inet/applications/tcpapp. The example doesn't have to do a full parameter study, it's enough to demonstrate using a simple scenario.

Best regards,
levy

Thanks one more time!
I did my last modifications and my pull request into the repository : Example: Video streaming with TCP, UDP and the DASH technique. #325

Best regards,
