Indianapolis has a few special contra events coming up. We always
welcome anyone interested in traditional American music and dance to
join us, and here are a few newsworthy events. We would appreciate it
if friends who maintain related email lists would pass this along!
June 1, we have a "First Friday" contra dance, 8 - 11 p.m., called by
Dugan Murphy with music by Edge of Erin. This is a going away
"celebration," for Dugan and for Samantha Stelting. Dugan is moving
back to Maine and Sam is moving to Cleveland.
June 12, we have Perpetual e-Motion (check out their electronic,
traditional, crossover music at
http://www.perpetuale-motion.com) and
Will Mentor, visiting after they perform at Dance Trance.
October 26 - 28, we have Gypsy Moon Ball weekend, with Rebecca Lay and
Anadama flying out from New England to call and play for us, along
with the Coffee Zombies and Darlene Underwood. Please come!
Oh, and on May 22nd we have two special things happening. Doug and
Fiona will give a workshop on flourishes which dancers can add to the
basic moves for variety and excitement. That's at 7:15. And at 7:45 we
expect to have about thirty brand new dancers come try contra for the
very first time! We're always glad to have lots of dancers, and we
could really use a big crowd of experienced people that night, 8 - 10
p.m.
These dances are all are at our "new" regular location, Zion
Evangelical UCC, just northeast of the Murat in downtown Indianapolis.
The regular weekly dance is Tuesday, 8 - 10 p.m., with a beginner
lesson/refresher at 7:45. First Tuesday of every month is either open
calling, or open band with Dianna, John, and Twy. We welcome callers
and musicians of all skill and experience levels to join them on the
stage. More info is at
