This is quick news about contra dancing in Indianapolis: some summer
dance events, new email contacts, and Gypsy Moon Ball plans. If you
want to receive more regular email about our events via our member
discussion group, write indyc...@gmail.com and we'll add you to that
list.
First, we have three special dance events coming up in the next few weeks:
1. Tuesday, June 23, at 8 p.m., we dance at a special location,
checking out a possible site of future dances. Earth House (Lockerbie
United Methodist Church) is just about 2 blocks southeast of the
Athenaeum, our current location. (The Athenaeum has been increasingly
busy, and their management is helping us try to find a new, more
reliable site.)
We especially encourage Indy residents who haven't been dancing much
lately, and our bands and callers to come see the site and give us
your opinion of the site, floor, acoustics, etc. (The Earth House
website is at http://www.earthhousecollective.org ).
If you can, please join us for dinner about 6 p.m. at the Earth House
Cafe (inexpensive vegetarian food) before dancing to the Fall Creek
Delta Boys and Frank Buschelmann.
Earth House is at 237 N. East St (southeast corner of the
intersection of East and New York). Here's a map:

There's plenty of free parking to the south of the building, and on
either side east & west (limited parking to the north).
2. Friday, August 7 we have a free dance 6 - 9 or 10 pm as part of
the First Friday Art Tour. Music and calling by 5-OH and Barry
Dupen, at Harrison Center for the Arts, 1505 North Delaware.
Harrison's website is at http://www.harrisoncenter.org
Info about First Fridays is at http://www.idada.org/FirstFriday.aspx

3. August 18, we dance at the Indiana State Fair. Celtic Myst will
play. We especially encourage contra dancers from other Indiana
communities to come help us fill the Dance for Health Stage and show
other fairgoers how much fun they can have coming to Indiana contra
dances! (We may have some free passes good for admission to the fair
that day. Write
indyc...@gmail.com if you want one).
Second, as you know we had spam problems last year, and have changed
to use this google group to send info about dances. We also have a new
email address for bands and callers interested in performing at our
dances: indycontr...@gmail.com (Remember, you get free
admission to our other dances each quarter you play or call.) For
other matters, email indyc...@gmail.com All accounts that end
"@indycontra.org" have been shut off.
Third, Gypsy Moon Ball planning has begun. We will dance Saturday and
Sunday, October 31 & November 1, 2009. We'll be back at the Belzer
Scout Camp, with calling by Gaye Fifer and Meg Dedolph, and music by
Hu$hmoney (formerly Strings N Things) and Third Fiddle. We will start
dancing earlier this year, with contras, waltzing, and perhaps some
other dances 2 - 5 on Saturday, then the pitchin, then dancing to
probably 1 a.m. & partying until you drop; and on Sunday waltzing &
brunch, then about 3 more hours of contra! Some details are in flux,
so if you have strong preferences, now's the time to volunteer them
(or your labor in helping to distribute info, inventory & shop for
supplies, decorate & cleanup, house out of town dancers, etc.). Our
web page, http://www.indycontra.org/Dances/Gypsy_Moon_Ball/Introduction.php
, will get updated over the next month or so.
We welcome feedback and inquiries about our dances, website, etc. Just
write indyc...@gmail.com or visit www.indycontra.org
Hope to see you at a dance soon,
Kathryn C. Millis
