Great news, Indianapolis contra dance friends!

It's October so we're just three weeks away from Gypsy Moon Ball, our annual weekend of contra dancing & music.

We have two of the midwest's most popular bands, the Mean Lids and The Ripples, two favorite callers, Dana Parkinson and Lauren Peckman, and more than 100 dancers coming from other communities to join us in about eighteen hours of dancing, a costume contest on Saturday evening, and an after party just two miles from the dance!

We dance Friday through Sunday, October 24 - 26, at Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ, at the corner of New Jersey and East North St. (not the site of our regular weekly dances).

You don't need to register in advance (though you can save by doing so), but everyone must carry in clean dancing shoes. No shoes worn on the street or elsewhere! And you might want to wear a costume Saturday night, as there will be a contest.

You'll find maps, a more detailed schedule, and other information at http://www.indycontra.org/gypsy-moon-ball/gmb-2014/

For GMB to happen, we need dancers to help! Please reply to this email or talk to any board member if you can help.

Our main need is for volunteers to watch the admission table. We also appreciate help with setup and takedown, snack table contributions, and hosts for out of town dancers (these are generally friends and friends of friends, so you're not opening your house to complete strangers).

In addition to GMB, we have all our weekly Tuesday night contra dances (all at Grove Haus):

October 7, Veteran contra dance fiddler Tom Cunningham teams up with gypsy jazz guitarist Ben Andrews, with the fabulous caller Susan Moffett.

October 14, Emily Ann and Kelly Thompson play Irish, Scottish, and old time tunes, and we have a new (to us) caller, Neal Schlein from Urbana, IL.

October 21, Bloomington musicians Entwyned travel up to play for us and local caller Bob Duffy takes a break from dancing to call some dances.

October 28, Convolution's musicians Ben Smith and Dianna Davis join up with guitarist Mark Conway and Ken Gall takes the stage to call Indy Contra's last Tuesday dance of the month.

We hope to see you all having fun at every one of these events!
