Hi, guys

I asked Justin Wang about the games and players. He told me that there will be four teams including Cincinnati, Lexington, Louisville and Indy. Most players in these team are working people in local plus several visiting scholars or few students. Average age for the players is about 40. There will be two games on October 5 afternoon for each team. It is for fun. Last year we had 9 people, after the two games, all of us were too tired because of no substitute. Hope we will have enough players this year.

       First of all, thank you for passing this information along.  We briefly discussed this tournament last Sunday and it appeared that we had enough interests to join this tournament.  After reading Zhan Li's email about average players' age is about 40, I am even more motivated. :)

       A few of us mentioned that we should start having practice sessions and I think that would be a great idea.   Are you guys interested in meeting this Saturday and have a practice session?

Sounds great. I talked with Justin Wang, the organizer, he is glad that we can have a team and join the tournament in October. We also talked about the agenda including the dinner after games. Last time we had food together, there is a very good Chinese restaurant in Louisville, they provided the dinner food to all the players last time. We had the food and some fruit after two games, people did  enjoy the time. Justin told me they will send a flyer later to everyone. Actually, James gave me this suggestion, I transferred to Justin, when we get the flyer, we will be more clear the place and the whole plan for the games in details. About the teammate, I have some good news. Yunpeng Bai and Wenjun Zhang will join us, Lengxiaoling and several other students in IU will also join us, therefore we may have enough players now for the future two games. We need to meet with each other and practice for a while.

      I just realized that this weekend might not be a good time to have a practice session, as it is a long weekend (Labor Day).  Most people probably have plans.  As usual, we will switch our normal Sunday game to Monday, which I will send out a separate email.  We will talk this week when we get together and come up with a game plan.

     Let's do a head count.  If you are available to come this Saturday for a practice session, please say so.  I am in. 

    To reduce the number of emails that we might get, it would nice if you can talk to a few others and simply send one email and say how many people are coming with you.

    Also, I started a conversation with Midwest ISO soccer group and asked if they would like to have a friendly game with us.  Ideally, I would like to have this game before our trip to KY.   I will keep the team posted if I am able to go any further.  For those of you that work at Midwest ISO, you can also help me facilitate this by talking to players there and get something going for us.

A few of you emailed me about when is our practice on Saturday, if we have one.  Since we are having an unusually hot week (Sat high is 93), I think we would want to start late, like 6:00pm, as opposed to playing in early afternoon.

      There have been some questions about soccer games this weekend.  Let me provide some clarifications.  Our normal Sunday's game is changed to Monday, due to long weekend.  This game is ON.

      In addition, there were discussions about having a practice session among Chinese players to prepare for the upcoming games.  This practice session is scheduled this Saturday at 6:00pm.  This is not yet confirmed.  So far, I have confirmation from 3 players:

1. Qing Ye

2. Ming Li

3. Song Wu

      We need more players to participate if we want to have a game this Saturday.  Please respond.  If we don't have enough players, we won't play this Saturday.  But the Monday's game is on regardless.

Thank Zheng for asking. I planed to contact you couple days later since I am still working on something for the tournament.

 

Last Friday I rent a very good fields for the tournament on UofL campus, which Cincinnati, Lexington and Louisville had tournament 2 years before. However, 10/05 the field is not available. So I reserved 10/12 from 2:00 to 5:00pm. So please talk to your players to mark their calendar.

 

I am looking for sponsors for the tournament and may have a cup name to cover the cost, majority of the cost will be for referees. If I can not find sponsors, referees may come from each team.

 

I will let you know more information when it is rolling.
