Super Smelters Limited Plans For
Modification Of Its Steel Plant With CPP
Super Smelters Limited plans for Modification of its Steel Plant that involves setting up of 6,00,000 TPA Iron Ore Pelletisation Plant, 7,60,000 TPA Iron Ore Beneficiation Plant, Installation of 2x500 TPD DRI along with a 36 MW Captive Power Plant at Jamuria Industrial Estate, Mondalpur, Mouza Ikra, Tehsil Asansol, District Burdwan, West Bengal.

As 0n January 11, 2012 : The Project is under planning stage.
The total project area (including existing) is 290 Acres, which is already acquired and 96 Acres (33% of total area) of land area has been earmarked for development of Green Belt all around the project area.
IMPORTANT: As per the discussion we had last on 06.01.2012 with Super Smelters Limited the Project is under planning stage.
The company is waiting for Environmental Clerance ..
The exiting project has not yet been completely commissioned.
However, project work for modification will commence as soon as environmental clerance has been received.
The Project is Scheduled to be Completed
in 2013 .

The Main Scope of Supply includes:
Captive Power Plant :
1.Waste Heat Recovery Boiler:
The hot flue gases from DRI kilns will pass through waste heat recovery Boilers to recover the heat and to generate 20 MW electricity. The gases after heat recovery will pass through ESPs and then discharged through chimneys into the atmosphere for effective dispersion of emissions into the atmosphere.
2.Fluidized Bed Combustion (FBC) Boiler:
Total dolochar generated will be used in AFBC Boilers along with coal to generate
16 MW electricity. The flue-gases will be treated in high efficiency ESP and then discharged through stack into the atmosphere.

Heat Exchangers, Air Pre-heater/Economiser) to be included both type of Boilers.
3. Turbo Generators : 2 Nos

4.SPONGE IRON (DRI) Unit : 2 Nos
Capacity : 500 TPD
Refractory lined rotary kilns will be used for reduction of Pellets in solid state.
A central Burnerlocated at the discharge end will be used for initial heating of the kiln.Pellets will be continuously fed into the kiln along with coal which has dual role of fuel as well as reductant. Dolomite will be added to scavenge the sulphur from the coal.

DRI grade Coal- 4,50,000 TPA
Boiler grade coal for AFBC- 78,000 TPA
Coal fines 30,000 TPA
Dolomite 13,500 TPA
Lime stone 26,000 TPA and
Bentonite- 5,200 TPA
are the raw materials that will be used in the proposed modification.

Air Pollution Control Equipment :
Electrostatic Precipitators/ Bag Filters
The plant shall be provided with Electrostatic Precipitators
having high efficiency (above 99.98%) for collection of the fly ash that would
be produced from the Process of coal combustion in Boiler Furnace.
An Electro Static Precipitator would be provided for the cleaning / detarring of the Producer gas and the flue gases.
Coal from the coal yard will be crushed in a Crusher and conveyed to coal storage bunkers of Boilers through a system of Conveyor Belts, Crusher and Vibrating Screens and is fed to the furnace.
ESP, Dust Extraction systems for Conveyor Transfer Points, Crusher and Screen house with Hoods, Bag filter and Fans will be provided.
Bag house along with stack will be provided for control of PM and ESP along with chimney will be provided for DRI kiln. Dust suppression will be done using pulse jet bag filters and water sprinkling.
De-mineralised water from the storage tank will be pumped to the boiler with the
aid of Boiler Feed Pump. The boiler feed water through an Economizer will
the Steam drum and water walls where it is heated and converted to
saturated steam.
The steam from the main steam header will be taken to the
Turbo–Generators. After rotating the turbinethe exhaust steam is
condensed in the Air Cooled Condensers and the
condensed water is pumped to the De-Aerator and fed back to the boilers.

The following air pollution control systems/ measures are proposed in the Plant
1. All Conveyors will be completely covered with G.I. sheets to control fugitive
dust.
2. All bins will be totally packed and covered so that there will not be any chance
for dust leakage.
3. All the Dust Prone Points Material Handling systems to be connected with
de-dusting system with bag filters.
4. All Discharge Points and Feed points, wherever the possibility of dust
generation is there a de-dusting suction point will be provided to collect the dust.
5. The collected Dust from the Bag house of Steel Melting to be taken to a dust
storage bin through a Pneumatic Conveying system.
Water Treatment Plant :
Oxdisation Chamber, Filter, D.M. Plant
Pumps Valves, Custom Pipeline Work
The proposed project requires about 1,425 m3/Day of water.
This includes Make-up water for DRI, Power plant and Domestic water.
Source Of Water :
Ansol Durgapur Development Authority.
Effluent Treatment Plant:
Water consumption will be minimized by harvesting rain water in harvesting pond.
No effluent will be discharged outside the plant premises.
Waste water generated in the process will be treated and reused in the process.
Char and kiln accretion from DRI plant will be used in AFBC and for filling low lying areas respectively.
Fly ash and bottom ash from CPP (FBC) will be sold to brick manufacturing units and cement plants respectively.
The tailing waste will be treated in tailing pond, the metals are separated through a magnetic separator & recycled and the sludge is supplied to brick manufacturers.
The sludge from STP would be stabilized and used as manure for green belt.

Fire Fighting System shall be as per the TAC Norms.
96 Acres of Greenbelt will be Developed (inclusive of existing) as per CPCB guidelines. 15 m wide greenbelt will be developed along the periphery of the plant. and a scheme for Rainwater Harvesting have to be put in place.

Construction of Office Building, Factory Shed- Boiler House, Substation-Control Panel- Electrical Work, Plumbing Work, Structural Steel fabrication and Erection Work, Fabrication Storage Tank, Vessels etc. etc.
