RSPL Limited  plans to set up a Chemical Manufacturing Unit 

to produce Soda Ash  having Capacity of 1500 TPD along with a  Captive Power Plant of 50 MW at Kuranga Village, Taluka: Dwarka, Jamnagar District, Gujarat. 

Capacity :

Soda Ash Plant

1. Light Soda Ash    : 1500 TPD

2.Dense Soda Ash   : 770 TPD

  (Dense Soda Ash is conversion of  Light Soda Ash)

 

Captive Power Plant  : 50 MW

(Coal Based)

 

 Location : Kuranga Village, Taluka: Dwarka

                  Jamnagar District, Gujarat

 

As 0n  December 06, 2012 : The Project is  under Planning Stage.

 

The unit would come up on about 1000 Acres of Land .

 

In this regard,  the company has applied for approx. 300 acres of Government wasteland to the Government whereas  approx. 700 acres of Private un-irrigated land is being acquired at Kuranga village, Jamnagar District, Gujarat. 

 

This land is proposed to be used for the Soda Ash Plant, Captive Power Plant, other  infrastructure etc and provisions for future expansion will be there. Existing landuse will be changed to industrial and Green belt/plantation.

 

Green belt will be developed in 33% of the total area to minimize the air impact and noise impact on the surrounding area.

 

IMPORTANT: As per the discussion we had on 27.11.2012 with RSPL Limited the Project is under Panning .

 

The company is now  waiting to obtain tne “Environment Clearance.

 

The project work is likely to start from

April,2013.

 

The Project   is Scheduled to be  Completed by

by April, 2015.

The Main Scope of Supply includes:

Boiler  : 150 TPH – 3 Nos

(CFBC boiler)

Fuel               :  Lignite / Coal 

Stack             : 122 Meters

 

Turbine  : 25 MW - 2 Nos

    (Multi extraction Turbo-Alternator)

 

Fuel  Consumtion:

Lignite (2700 TPD) / Coal  (1800 TPD)  for Boiler

 

Heat Exchangers, Air Pre-heater/Economiser)

 

Pullution Control Equipment:

ESP, Bag Filter,  Scrubbers

The particulate emissions from Boilers,  DG set, Captive Power Plant and Process Vent    ESP, Bag Filter will be installed.

To control emissions from Process Vents adequet  Scrubber will be installed.

 

Soda Ash Manufacturing Process :

 

SODA ASH (also known as Sodium carbonate OR washing soda), Na2CO3 is a sodium salt of carbonic acid. It most commonly occurs  as a crystalline heptahydrate, which  readily efflorescesto form a white powder, the monohydrate. Sodium carbonate is domestically well known for its everyday use as a water softener.

 

It is synthetically produced in large quantities from salt and limestone in a process known as the Solvay Process.

 

Basic raw materials for manufacturing of Soda Ash (Na2CO3) are limestone and salt.

 

Limestone is mainly composed of CaCO3 (92%) & MgCO3(2%). Deposit of limestone occurs in commercially exploitable quantities at several locations in Gujarat state.

 

Common salt is produced in saltpans from seawater through solar evaporations. It contains  NaCl(98%) and traces of impurities like Ca & Mg.

Since both the raw materials are solids and do not ordinarily react, ammonia is used as an  intermediate carrier `catalyst’ to make them react and produce Soda Ash.

 

Main Raw Material :

Limestone: Limestone requirement is approx.3000 TPD for Soda Ash Plant.

Limestone requirement will be met from limestone mines located in Junagadh, Jamnagar & Porbandar districts

Other Raw materials required: Sodium Sulphide, Coke/Coal, Ammonia.  

 

Process Description (Dry Liming process)

 

The important Process steps are as follows:

 

Unit No.  01  : Brine Purification

Unit No.  02  : Lime Kilns and gas cleaning

• Unit No.  03  : Lime Grinding and Absorption, Distillation

 

The burnt lime from lime kilns is conveyed to intermediate Lime hopper. The controlled quantity of burnt  lime is fed to the Crusher and then fed to lime

Grinding mill. The size distribution of ground lime is very critical and is a key

factor for the operation of dry liming process. The ground lime is pneumatically

transferred to the ground lime hopper.

 

The ground lime from hopper is added to Prelimer by Weigh Feeder and Screw Conveyor.

Here,  lime will be  reacted with bottom liquor of Free Ammonia

Still. Small quantity of Ammonia is released from Prelimer due to heat of

hydration of Lime. The contents of Prelimer are passed to Separator, wherein

the solids are separated and clear Ammonium Hydroxide solution flows to Fixed

Ammonia Still.

 

The slurry discharged from Separator bottom is mixed with effluent from Fixed

Ammonia Still bottom in Dilution Tank. This effluent is then pumped to directly to

sea after dilution or to the effluent settling pond.

 

Unit No.  04  : Carbonation and Compression

 

• Unit No.  05  : Filtration and Calcinations

In the Calcination section the crude bicarbonate from filtration section is

decomposed into Light Soda Ash, carbon dioxide, ammonia and water vapour.

 

Crude bicarbonate from the filtration section contains ammonium bicarbonate as impurities. This ammonium bicarbonate also decomposes to ammonia, CO2 and water vapour.

The crude bicarbonate is fed in a controlled manner via Table Feeder to the Calciner

Water Treatment Plant :

The total water requirement shall be 6,00,000 m3/day and will be met from the sea water of Arabian Sea.

 

Sea water from Arabian Sea and  in turn Process water will be obtailed  through RO/DM Plant.

Sea water Intake System.

Effluent  Treatment Plant:

The Effluent Treatment scheme will comprise of

 

Stage – 1    -Primary Treatment

Stage – 2  -  Secondary Treatment

Stage – 3  - Tertiary Treatment

 

The effluent generated from the the plant  will be  mainly from Process, Washings, Scrubbers, Cooling Towers & Boiler Blow downs and domestic effluent.

 

Domestic wastewater will be treated in Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and treated water will be used for Plantation/Green belt development around the plant premises.

The sewage will be first passed through a Bar Screen Chamber & an Oil & Grease Trap where any extraneous / floating matter would get trapped.

 

The sewage would then be collected in a Receiving Sump where the variations in flow and characteristics are dampened, which otherwise can lead to operational problems and moreover it allows a constant flow rate  downstream. Here the sewage is kept in mixed condition by means of coarse air bubble diffusion.

The equalized sewage will then be pumped for necessary treatment of BOD/COD reduction. 

 

Effluent generated shall be segregated in to high High COD & Low COD Stream.

 

Low COD Stream  Effluent will be Sent to propose Effluent Treatment Plant.  Treated Effluent will be sent to  GIDC Effluent Pipeline for final disposal in deep sea.

 

High COD Stream  Effluent will be Sent to Multipleple Effective Evaporator MEE).The condensate from MEE shall be reused in cooling Tower. The concentrated mass of MEE shall be sen to Incineration Facility. Domestic waste water will be sent to Soak Pit/Septic Tank.
