Lorvin Industries Plans To Set Up
(Update : Ref Our Earlier Report of 06.04.2011 & 31.08.2011)
Lorvin Industries Limited plans to set up a 70 KLPD Molasses based Distillery along with a 2 MW Cogeneration Power Plant at Kenganoor, Belgaum District, Karnataka.
The Unit will manufacture Ethanol, ENA (Extra Neutral Alcohol) & RS (Rectified Spirit).
Capacity :
Distillery : 70 KLPD
Captive Power Plant : 2 MW
Carbon dioxide (30TPD) will be
produced as by-product
Distillery will be operated for 330 days.
Location : Kenganoor, Taluk Bailhongal
District Bengaum, Karnataka.
As 0n April 30, 2012 : The Project is under Planning Stage.
The unit would come up on about 17.564 ha Area of Land .
Out of 17.564 ha , 6.00 ha will be developed as Green Belt.

As per the discussion we had last on 24.04.2012 with Lorvin Industries Limited the Project is under Panning Stage now.
The Land has been acquired.
The company has now obtained the MoEF Clerance.
The Civil work is positively to start from
May/ June,2012.
The Project is Scheduled to be Completed
by March, 2013 .

The Main Scope of Supply includes:

Process :
Molasses (280 TPD) sourced from other Sugar Industries will be used as raw materials.
Continuous fermentation with Multi-Pressure Vacuum distillation technology followed by bio-composting will be used.
Molasses (280 TPD) will be diluted with water and mixed with small quantities of specified cultures and nutrients (phosphate, urea and sulphuric acid) and then subjected continuous fermentation in large fermentation tanks. The produce mixture (referred as fermented wash) containing about 9-10% alcohol will be clarified. The clear wash will then purified in multistage vacuum distillation system to recover different grades of ethanol. Ethanol will be stored in MS storage tanks. The aqueous solution obtained after separation of alcohol from wash will be the spent wash. It will contain organic and inorganic matter as impurities and therefore suitably treated before disposal.
The spent wash 630 KL/d (649 TPD) will be concentrated from 12 to 60% in evaporators and then burnt along with bio mass as fuel in
24 TPH boiler. High pressure steam from boiler will be passed through turbine to generate 2.0 MW power.

Air Pollution Control Equipment :
Electrostatic Precipitators/ Bag Filter
Flue gas will be controlled by electrostatic precipitator (ESP) and then vented through a stock (50 m).CO2 produced from fermenters will be scrubbed with water and recycled to fermenter. Alcohol free CO2 gas will be sent to CO2 plant to produce liquid CO2 which will be compressed, cooled, liquefied and transported to consumers.
CO2 will be recovered and given to Bottling unit.
Back pressure steam at 4.0 kg/cm2 will be used in the distillation and evaporation. Co-gen power will be used in the plant to meet captive needs and excess power of about 0.8 MW will be exported to public grid. Carbon dioxide (30TPD) will be produced as by-product in fermenters. Carbon dioxide will be recovered from fermenters, purified and liquefied in carbon dioxide plant.
Flue gases after super heating the steam will pass through Economizer where they will Pre-Heat the boiler Feed water before it enters the boiler drum. After Economizer, flue will pass through Air Pre-Heaters where they will heat the air which will be fed to the boiler furnace for burning the fuel.
After Air Pre Heaters flue gases will pass through an Electro Static Precipitator where the Dust Particles will be collected on charged electrodes. After passing through ESP, clean flue gases with dust particle concentration also known as SPM level less than 100 mg/Nm3 through a Chimney of prescribed height.
The dust will be collected from the bottom of the ESP.
High pressure superheated steam from boiler will pass through a Steam Turbine and at the lower pressure will go to the condenser.
The part of the steam will be extracted from the extraction points provided on the turbine, which will be used for distillery.
The condensed steam will return to the steam boiler as condensate and will again be boiled as steam.
While passing through the turbine, the high pressure and temperature steam will rotate the turbine rotor and an Electric Alternator mounted on the same shaft.
Electric power will be generated by the alternator. This electric power generated will be consumed in house i.e. for running the distillery and utilities like boilers auxiliaries etc.

Water requirement will be 900 m3/day.
It will be sourced from River Malaprabha
(3 km from the site).
A Dedicated Pipeline will be laid from River Bed to the plant for conveyance of water.
Effluent Treatment Plant
Spent wash (630 m3/day) will be concentrated from 12% to 60% as solids in evaporator. The water evaporator from evaporator will be condensed. The condensate water will be treated and reused as cooling water make up in the plant.
The concentrate (130 TPD) from the evaporator having heat value 1600 kcal/kg will be burnt as liquid fuel in the boiler alongwith coal.
The effluent (260 m3/day, spent lees, Cooling Tower Blow Down, plant washing etc. will be treated by neutralization, activated sludge process and clarification. Treated effluent will be sent to agricultural lands for irrigation.
The effluent (663 m3/day) vapor condensate & vacuum pumps will be neutralized filtered through membrane/sand filter will be recycled (6 m3/day) as cooling tower make up and/or used in the process for dilution of molasses. Domestic effluent (6 m3/day) will be treated in septic tank followed by soak pit. No effluent will be discharged outside the premises and Zero discharge will be adopted.
Fermented sludge (2 TPD) will be thickened in clarifier and decanter centrifuge and dried in open yard. Dried sludge will be sold as cattle feed or composted with bio-mass. Boiler ash (18 TPD) will be given to farmers as soil nutrient and soil conditioner. Spent oil (250 l/yr) and used batteries will be sold to authorized recyclers / re-processors.

(Approx. 6 ha) and a scheme for Rainwater Harvesting have to be put in place.
