Methods: Thirteen patients with giant serpentine aneurysms were studied at our institution in the last 3 years. They all underwent CT and MR studies as well as cerebral angiography. More recently, some of the patients were studied with MR angiography. Seven patients had endovascular occlusion of the giant serpentine aneurysms, 3 with N-butyl cyanoacrylate, 2 with Guglielmi detachable coils, and 2 with detachable balloons.
Results: Giant serpentine aneurysms mimic cerebral neoplasms on CT and MR studies; they are often associated with mass effect and adjacent edema, and they enhance with contrast medium. The cerebral angiogram shows a residual irregular lumen of the partially clotted aneurysm, which continues into normal branches supplying the distal arterial territory. Six patients were treated successfully with an endovascular approach consisting of complete and permanent occlusion of the parent artery.
Conclusion: Giant serpentine aneurysms from a subgroup of large intracranial aneurysms that have specific CT, MR, and angiographic features, which should be recognized before their treatment. The endovascular treatment of the aneurysm consists of permanent occlusion of the parent artery.
The partially thrombosed giant cerebral aneurysm has a heterogeneous signal on MRI, reflecting the variable age of underlying blood products. The serpentine intra-aneurysmal vascular channel is best appreciated on angiographic sequences.

A serpentine shape is any of certain curved shapes of an object or design, which are suggestive of the shape of a snake (the adjective "serpentine" is derived from the word serpent). Serpentine shapes occur in architecture, in furniture, and in mathematics.
The serpentine shape is observed in many architectural settings. It may provide strength, as in serpentine walls, it may allow the facade of a building to face in multiple directions, or it may be chosen for purely aesthetic reasons.
In furniture, serpentine-front dressers and cabinets have a convex section between two concave ones.[4] This design was common in the Rococo period.[5] Examples include Louis XV commodes and 18th-century English furniture.[6]
Serpentinite is a metamorphic rock that forms at tectonic plate boundaries deep within the Earth. In the Franciscan Complex, it formed when ocean water carried down with subducting ocean crust was heated and moved through upper mantle and basal ocean crust rocks, hydrating their magnesium- and iron-rich minerals, like olive and pyroxene, to form magnesium-rich serpentine minerals.
Hot water forced through tiny fractures and pores in the mantle rock dissolves some silica from the rock into it. This silica-rich water then chemically reacts with mantle rock minerals like olivine to produce serpentine minerals by the formula below:

Morphoeic basal cell carcinoma, also known as morpheic, morphoeiform, or sclerosing basal cell carcinoma, is usually found in midfacial sites. It can have wide and deep subclinical extensions and may infiltrate cutaneous nerves (perineural spread). It presents as an indistinct, waxy, scar-like plaque with ill-defined borders.
