Big Picture
Australia's quicks are fast and fit. Their batsmen are explosive. They might not quite be New Zealand in the field, but they take their catches, make crucial saves. All this might daunt Sri Lanka, who are once again outgunned. But it hasn't. Sri Lanka are still speaking of "peaking at the right time" and making incremental advances. They have three wins on the trot. Even if they have lost more players to injury in the past 10 days, than they have lost wickets in matches, they feel their campaign is picking up traction.
As good as Sri Lanka feel following comprehensive victories against Bangladesh and England, Australia have appeared the more cohesive unit through the tournament. Importantly, their key players have form too. Mitchell Johnson took four wickets against Afghanistan. Mitchell Starc turned the New Zealand match almost on his own, in Auckland. David Warner has recent runs, as does Glenn Maxwell. The class of Michael Clarke and Steven Smith do not take much to rouse.
Both teams now have enough victories under their belt to make quarter-final progress somewhat straightforward. Whichever team wins on Sunday will secure a quarter-final berth, and the other will be left to beat Scotland in the coming week to place themselves in the knockouts. An Australia defeat also means they are likely to face a semi-final against New Zealand in Auckland rather than a home game Sydney.
Victory on Sunday will also raise chances of finishing higher up in the group, which appears likely to be an advantage, the way the other group is unfolding. Both captains say they are not thinking of whom they would prefer to face in the quarter-final, but it is likely they will want to avoid India and South Africa for as long as possible.
In the spotlight
Wherever he is in the batting order, wherever he plays in the world, Lahiru Thirimanne has found ways to contribute while other young batsmen have failed to string together significant scores. He had not been at his best during the tour of New Zealand, but in four World Cup innings so far, he has two fifties and a career-high 139. The big tournaments appear to draw the best from him, but his form will be tested by a high-quality attack in Sydney. If he can sustain his good run, easing pressure on Sri Lanka's seniors, the top order will likely continue to prosper.
Aaron Finch was the primary architect of Australia's mammoth score against England, on the World Cup's first day, but since then, he has been short of time in the middle - due to poor weather, as much as poor strokes. Finch has generally preferred faster tracks and quicker bowlers, as the statistical breakdown of his career lays out. He will be desperate to resumerun-making after two scores below 15, but the Sri Lanka attack may prove a challenge for him on a dry deck.
Sri Lanka may consider playing two spinners, and four specialist bowlers in all, but since Tillakaratne Dilshan has been bowling effectively over the past two weeks, Angelo Mathews may push for another 8-3 combination, banking on Dilshan, himself and Thisara Perera to get through 20 overs. With a number of right-handers in the Australia top order, new-entrant Seekkuge Prasanna has a greater chance of playing than Sachithra Senanayake, if only one frontline spinner gets to feature.
Pitch and conditions
There is a small chance of rain on Sunday afternoon, but the forecast is largely encouraging. The pitch, as Michael Clarke has said, appears to be slow and spin-friendly. The captain that wins the toss will likely want to avoid batting second on the surface.

- Sri Lanka have not defeated Australia in World Cups since the 1996 final. There have been four wins to Australia and a washout in that time.

A record number of nearly 2,000 diplomatic passports were issued by the previous administration to everyone from presidential advisers, clergy and doctors and to ministers, deputy ministers, coordinating secretaries and boundless numbers of children. In most other countries, diplomatic passports are issued under strict guidelines to limited categories of senior State employees.
The latest list of ‘active diplomat passports’ maintained by the Department of Immigration and Emigration even shows the name a London-based lawyer named Kumar Anton Rohitha Bulathwela who, in August 2012, was struck off the roll by Britain’s Solicitors Regulation Authority for misappropriation of a client’s funds. Mr. Bulathwela —who appears to have dual citizenship —was also ordered to pay sterling pounds 25,000 as costs.
In April 2013, the Immigration Department gave Mr. Bulathwela a diplomatic passport. Mr. Bulathwela is the spouse of Rani M.S. Bulathwela who presided over the Sri Lanka Freedom Party’s British branch. Public records show that, in February 2014, she, too, was handed down an 18-month suspension from the Roll of Solicitors for misconduct. Ironically, Ms. Bulathwela was already a Sri Lankan diplomatic passport-holder at the time of the ruling, having been issued with one in February 2013. She was subsequently posted as Minister to Sri Lanka’s mission in Rome and, according to its website, still serves there.
In 2008, controversy broke out over the granting of a diplomatic passport containing false information to Vinayagamoorthy Muralithiran, or Karuna Amman. He was arrested and sentenced for possessing a forged document but said in court that the Sri Lankan Government had provided it to him. In January 2009, he was once again issued a diplomatic passport.
Diplomatic passports carry with them certain benefits. Chief among these is that holders can usually avoid security checks of their baggage and use specified queues. “Sometimes, visas are given gratis and those who have diplomatic passports can use the VIP lounges in airports,” said an authoritative source who requested anonymity. “There is definitely an urgent need for more discretion in this area.”
The Sunday Times is in possession of the ‘active’ list and some names are published with this article. There are 1,843 recipients. It was not specified whether they were still travelling on these passports, had returned them or whether the documents had expired. When taking into account out-of-use passports, the total is much higher. Parliament was told last year that 2,872 diplomatic passports had been issued within a nine-year period.
Public Order Minister John Amaratunga said he would start further inquiries next week. “This is a clear abuse of privilege,” he held. “This is why there is no due regard or respect for the diplomatic passports we are carrying. As the minister, I was shocked at the number and I will query on what criteria they were handed out.”
A key problem may lie with the circular that describes the types of people entitled to diplomatic passports. The categories are sprawling and this leaves ample room for abuse. The website of the Immigration Department says the passports are issued to “VVIPs, Members of Parliament and Persons Posted to prescribed positions at Sri Lankan Overseas Missions”. But it then has a link to a circular that tells a different story.
The spouses and children of a vast array of officials—including ministers and deputy ministers, governors and chief ministers of provinces—are in the list of eligible persons. This has led to an explosion in the number of offspring using diplomatic passports. Some are listed as students, while others are labeled ‘unemployed’.
Additionally, all members of Parliament, provincial council chairpersons and ministers, a wide range of secretaries and advisors, military personnel, chief Buddhist monks, Catholic bishops and chief priests of other religions, chairmen of commissions, and mayors are entitled to diplomatic passports.
Other persons slowly crept into the mix. The Immigration Department was asked to issue diplomatic passports according to existing circulars,” Minister Amaratunga said. “But in between, letters would come.”
An official source said that another reason for so many diplomatic passport-holders is that people were haphazardly posted to foreign missions (at many levels) during the past few years. “They went out with entire families, all on diplomatic passports,” he pointed out. “We also observed a problem where various people sent letters using the Presidential Secretariat as a cover.”
It is not clear whether diplomatic passports are routinely surrendered at the end of assignments. The Immigration Department website says the documents are valid for ten years but an official said they were not usually issued for that full period. “Most times, we would give it for three years,” he said.
But this does not explain why the Immigration Department’s ‘active’ list has passports dating back to 2005. One reason might be, quite simply, that officials have lost track.

Kumar Sangakkara had hit the first five legitimate balls of the 36th over for a six and four fours, so when he shaped to scoop Alasdair Evans again off the last delivery, short fine leg Rob Taylor could be forgiven for expecting that one to go to the fence as well. As soon as Sangakkara made contact, Taylor turned and began running to the fine leg fence, almost as if he was expecting to retrieve the ball from beyond the rope. Only, Sangakkara had mishit this one, and instead of hitting the ball over Taylor, he'd sent it to the vicinity of Taylor's original position. Once the fielder noticed the ball wasn't going to the fence, he circled back around to collect the ball, his overconfidence in Sangakkara's abilities having cost his team a single.

It’s not as if Sangakkara is acting pricey, that he wants his colleagues and his board to come knocking on his door with a begging bowl. He knows he has done all he could do and more to raise the stock of Sri Lankan cricket, he knows that while he is still on top of his game, there is a life beyond cricket, especially with a young family and its demands to be met. More importantly, he knows his mind and his body better than anyone else, and if he believes it is time to go, then it truly is time to go.

Nine World Cup semi-finals, zero World Cup finals. New Zealand and South Africa are no strangers to the last four, but neither has ever experienced the ultimate shoot-out. That will change for one of the teams as Melbourne beckons for the winner.
Six months ago if you had asked for a prediction of this fixture it is likely that South Africa would have been favoured. Now the hosts can rightly be considered the smart money. At the very least, it is the too-close-to-call match-up that the contests should be at this stage of the tournament. The four best teams are in the semi-finals.
New Zealand are on the most glorious of runs: nine ODI wins and counting. Each match of this tournament has thrown up new heroes: Brendon McCullum, Corey Anderson, Tim Southee, Kane Williamson, Daniel Vettori and, latterly, Martin Guptill can be known as the Super Six, while they have had more than a little help from their team-mates.
South Africa's tournament has not been anywhere near as seamless with the notable group-stage defeats against India and Pakistan, the latter of those at Eden Park. However, their overwhelming performance in the quarter-final against Sri Lanka - their first World Cup knockout victory - has ensured that, at least for a short while, AB de Villiers can experience something his predecessors have not. Winning a crunch game.
But now comes another one. The teams met in the knockout stages four years ago - the quarter-final - where New Zealand won by 49 runs in Dhaka and the contest boiled over when de Villiers was run out. The feats in Sydney will not mean a jot if they cannot progress further.
The build-up to this match has been starkly different for each side. South Africa's quarter-final was the first to be played which has given them time to settle back into Auckland, so much so that they opted not to train on Monday - they did the same the day before the Sri Lanka match. New Zealand have played, travelled, prepared and must now play again. It is far removed from the week-long build-ups that have almost become agonising during the second half of their group campaign.
As well as being the last match for either side at the tournament, this will also be New Zealand's last match as a host nation. The country has staged a wonderful event. They deserve a memorable encounter with which to sign-off.

ICC keeps eye on sex probe
The International Cricket Council (ICC) will closely monitor the investigation and the course of action the authorities hope to take based the findings of the inquiry carried out on the women cricket team's alleged sexual harassment.
"The ICC is aware of the allegations and the investigation which is taking place and is monitoring the situation," said a spokesperson for the Council.
Questioned as to whether they were aware of similar allegations on women's cricket teams of other countries, the ICC spokeperson said that they have not received similar complaints.
Alleged incidents of sexual harassment and improper conduct said to have been committed in 2013 and 2014 by some officials was investigated by two committees and reports were submitted to the Tourism and Sports Minister Navin Dissanayake a few weeks ago.
The Committee of Inquiry appointed in November 2014 chaired by Justice N.E. Dissanayake, Retired Judge of the Supreme Court, conducted the investigation. The other members were Tharangani Keenawinna Dissanaike, Public Trustee and S. Aloka Bandara, Director of Combined Services of the Ministry of Public Administration. Another investigation was carried out by Manoli Jinadasa, Attorney-at-Law who was appointed by Sri Lanka Cricket to investigate and report on the same allegations.
The reports stated that "All three officials who were identified in the Reports no longer function in their previous positions since their contracts were not renewed when they concluded in end April this year." Both reports had commented adversely on the failure to ensure that a female manager handles the Women's Cricket Team.
The Sri Lanka's women's cricket team is ranked sixth in the World ODI rankings.

Very improved batting from India when compared to first test, a total of first test is being achieved in first innings, congratulations, i was bit afraid after the first session, i felt like we might score 300 or 300 + and India will get into stronger position, but Saha, Rahanae, Abhinav, I Sharma and Pujara wont let me down, thanks guys. If India wins this test, then they will stick to the same team for other tests too and they will call it as a winning combination, but i hope these specialized batsmans wont let it happen. Please stop telecasting this funny test and show the domestic season of Vijay Hazare Trophy, Cricket fans can atleast spend good weekend watching it. My kind advise the cricket fans of Bengaluru is to boycott going to the stadium and show our aversion to them, dont go fill up the stadium for no use. The Indian bubble has bursted nice and proper. Though wicket of Pujara was the turning point of the India innings, the real difference is in the approach of the two teams. Australia plays positive cricket while India plays negative. it is not in this match alone. This has been the case even when India wins and Australia is losing. One must appreciate the commitment of Aussie players, whether it is bowling, fielding or batting. Their attitude is reflected. No prizes for predicting the outcome of this match. Australia will bat India out by end of 2nd day itself and probably on the 3rd day, another Indian batting collapse will be witnessed. Two additional days of rest in the bargain for Mr Virat Kohli, the run machine, and his boys. Ha Ha Ha.

In this Test, I sat each day in the packed N stand. The view & company were terrific; the tension, sometimes unbearably intense.
The twists and turns in this epic Bengaluru Test demonstrated afresh why the longest form of the game is also the finest.
Test cricket at its very best. Pitches like these test the real skills of the batsmen. The pitch might have helped but the discipline shown by pacers of both teams is fabulous. On a spinner's paradise Starc, Hazel, Umesh and Ishant all bowled exceptional line and length testing all the batsmen. Quality Cricket equivalent to 10 thrilling t20s!
I am sorry but this pitch isn't test quality. Uneven bounce and cracks from day one. Some balls bounced from good length others just died. A spinning pitch is a different thing. This pitch was unfit for international test match

තීරණාත්මක කොළඹ ක්රීඩා සමාජ හැසිරවු SSC නොහොත් සිංහල ක්රීඩා සමාජයට තිලංග කෘතගුණ දක්වන්නේ ,
ප්රේමදාස , පල්ලෙකැලෙ, සූරීයවැව වැනි ක්රීඩාංගණ තබා ගෙන එක්දින තරග රටාවට නොගැලපෙන SSC ක්රීඩා පිටියට එක්දින තරග ලබා දීමෙන් ය.
අනෙක් අතට සිය නිළවරණ සටන මෙහෙය වූ ශම්මි ද සිල්වා , ජෙරමි වැන්නන්ට ශ්රී ලංකා ක්රීකට් මුල් පුටු හා තේරීම් වලට ඇගිලි ගැසීමට සියලු වරප්රසාද සිය සභාපති පුටුවෙ බලය භාවිතා කරමින් තිලංග සුමතිපාල ඉඩ දී තිබෙ.
ශ්රී ලංකා ක්රීකට් ක්රීඩාවෙන් ගසා කෑමට ශම්මි ද සිල්වා හා ජෙරමි හරි අපූරූ ක්රමයක් සොයා ගෙන තිබෙ.
එනම් සභාපති බලතල භාවිතා කරමින් , ක්රීකට් තේරීම් වලට ඇගිලි ගැසීමට බලය ලබා ගෙන සිටින ශම්මි ද සිල්වා හා ජෙරමි සිය ක්රීඩා සමාජ වල ක්රීඩකයන්ට ජාතීක කණ්ඩායමට එක් සංචාරයක් සදහා පමණක් නම් කරවීමට කටයුතු කරයි. ඉන්පසුව අදාල ක්රීඩකයන් එක සංචාරයක් ගොස් පැමිණි පසු ඔහුන් ඉපැයු තරග ගාස්තු වලින් 60%ක් ශම්මි ද සිල්වා හා ජෙරමි ට ලබා දිය යුතුය. මේ 60% කුඩා ගණනාවක් නොවන අතර අහසින් පාත් වූ ලෙස ජාතික කණ්ඩායමට පැමිණ එක්වරම අතුරුදහන් වන ක්රීඩකයන් අප මේ දිනවල ඕනෑ තරම් දැක තිබේ..
තේරීම් සභාපති සනත් ටද තිලංග ගේ අණට උඩින් යා නොහැක. සනත් ද තමන් නිළවරණයකින් බලතල ලබා දුන් කොළඹ ක්රීඩා සමාජයේ (CCC) විශේෂ හැන්දකින් සලකන බව ඇත්තකි. නමුත් මේ ලිපිය සනත් ගැන කතා කිරීමට නොවෙ.

අසේල විතාන දඹුල්ල ජාත්යන්තර ක්රීඩාංගණයේ සිට
ශ්රී ලංකාවේ නීරස ක්රීඩා විලාශය හමුවේ ක්රිකට් යනු මෙය යෑයි පෙන්වූ බංග්ලාදේශ පිල දඹුල්ල ජාත්යන්තර ක්රිකට් ක්රීඩාංගණයේ පැවැති පළමු එක්දින තරගයෙන් ලකුණු 90 ක පහසු ජයක් පෙරේදා (25 දා) ලබමින් තරග තුනකින් සමන්විත එක්දින තරගාවලිය 1-0 ක් ලෙස පෙරමුණ ගැනීමට සමත් විය.
ඉතිරි තරග දෙකෙන් එකක් බංග්ලාදේශ පිල ජය ගතහොත් ජාත්යන්තර එක්දින ක්රිකට් ශ්රේණිගත කිරීම්වලදී හය වැනි ස්ථානයට පත්වන අතර එසේ වුවහොත් ශ්රී ලංකාව හත්වැනි තැනට පත්වේ. තුන් ඉරියව්වෙන්ම බාලාංශ තරග රටාවක නියෑළුණ ශ්රී ලංකා පිලට එරෙහිව බංග්ලාදේශය ඉතිහාසයේ ලද පස්වැනි එක්දින තරග ජය මෙය වන අතර මීට පෙර 2013 දී ඇන්ජලෝ මැතිව්ස්ගේ නායකත්වයෙන් යුත් ශ්රී ලංකා පිලට එරෙහිව අවසන් වරට ඔවුන් ශ්රී ලංකාව පරාජය කර තිබුණි. අදාළ පරාජය ශ්රී ලංකාව පිට පිටම ලද හයවැනි එක්දින තරග පරාජය වන අතර මීට පෙර දකුණු අප්රිකාවට තරග පහක් පරාජය වී තිබුණි.
ශ්රී ලංකාවට එරෙහිව එක්දින තරගයකදී වාර්තා කළ වැඩිම මුළු ලකුණු සංඛ්යාව (324) වාර්තා කිරීමටද බංග්ලාදේශය මෙහිදී සමත් වූ අතර මීට පෙර ලබා තිබූ ඉහළම මුළු ලකුණු සංඛ්යාව වූයේ 2006 දී මොහාලිවලදී කඩුලු නවයකට ලබාගත් ලකුණු 265 යි. ශ්රී ලංකා පන්දු රකින්නන්ගේ නීරස ක්රීඩා විලාශය සහ පන්දු යවන්නන් වයිට් පන්දු 13 ක් ලබාදීම හේතුවෙන් බංග්ලාදේශයට පහසුවෙන්ම තුන්සියයේ සීමාව පන්නා යැමේ අවස්ථාව හිමි වෙද්දී පන්දු රකින්නන් ස්ථානගත කිරීම සහ කණ්ඩායම තේරීමේදී සංයුතිය ගලපා තිබූ ආකාරය අනුව බංග්ලාදේශයට කලින්ම ජයග්රහණය වෙන්කර ගැනීමේ අවස්ථාවක් පහළ වී තිබුණි.
කණ්ඩායම් දෙකම දඹුල්ල තණතීරුවේ ඇති තරම් ලකුණු ඇති බව වටහා ගත්තද තරගය ආරම්භයට පෙර පැයක පමණක කාලයක් කළ පුහුණුවීම්වලදී වැඩිම වේලාවක් පන්දු රැකීම සඳහා ශ්රී ලංකා පිල වැය කළේය. එහෙත් ශ්රී ලංකා පන්දු රකින්නන් අතින් නවතාලිය හැකි හතරේ පහර කිහිපයක්ම ළහිරු කුමාර, තිසර පෙරේරා, ලක්ෂාන් සඳකැන් සහ සචිත් පතිරණ අතින් ගිලිහී යද්දී මිලින්ද සිරිවර්ධන මිඩ් විකට් හී සිට උඩපන්දුවක් අතහැරීමෙන් එය ලකුණු හයක් බවට පත්වීමත් සමඟ බංග්ලාදේශයට නොතිබූ තිහකට වැඩි ලකුණු සංඛ්යාවක් හිමිවිය. බංග්ලාදේශය විශිෂ්ට පන්දු රැකීම නිරත වෙමින් තුන් ඉරියව්වෙන්ම ශ්රී ලංකාව පසුපසට තල්ලු කර දැමුවේය.
පිතිකරුවන්ට හිතකර තණතීරුවේදී හඹා යැම කාලෝචිත යෑයි තීරණය කළ උපුල් තරංගගේ පිතිකරු රෑනම කඩුලු පූජා කළ අයුරක් මෙම තරගයේදී දිස්විය. පළමුව පිති ප්රහාරයට පැමිණි බංග්ලාදේශය ඕවරයකට දළ ලකුණු හයක සාමාන්යයක් සහිතව ආරම්භයේදීම ක්රියාත්මක වෙමින් පළමු ලකුණු පනහ පන්දු 48 කදී වාර්තා කළේය. අනතුරුව ඔවුන් අවසන් පන්දු 81 දී තවත් ලකුණු 124 ක් එක් කිරීමට සමත් වූහ. එහෙත් ශ්රී ලංකා ඉනිමේ පළමු පන්දු ඕවරයේදීම ධනුෂ්ක ගුණතිලක දැවී ගිය අතර අනතුරුව හය වැනි පන්දු ඕවරයේදී කුසල් මෙන්ඩිස් බංග්ලාදේශයට කඩුල්ල පූජා කරමින් ලෝන් ඕන් ක්රීඩකයාට උඩ පන්දුවක් දී පිටියෙන් ඉවත් විය. නායක උපුල් තරංගද පුල් කිරීමට උත්සහ කරද්දී ෂෝඩ් මිඩ් විකට් හී සිටි මොර්ටාසා අතට උඩපන්දුවක් දීමත් සමඟ ලකුණු ලබා ගැනීමට හැකි තණතීරුවේදී ශ්රී ලංකා පිලේ පිතිකරුවෝ තිදෙනෙක් මුළු ලකුණු 31 ක් වන විට රාජකාරිය අවසන් කළේය.
තමීම් ඉක්බාල් බංග්ලාදේශය ලකුණු පුවරුව එක් අන්තයකින් කරකවමින් සිය අට වැනි එක්දින ශතකය වාර්තා කිරීමට සමත් විය. ඉක්බාල් ශ්රී ලංකාවට එරෙහිව ලද දෙවැනි ශතකය වන අතර මීට පෙර 2013 දී ඔහු හම්බන්තොට සූරියවැව ක්රීඩාංගණයේදී ශතකයක් (112) වාර්තා කර තිබුණි. 48 වැනි පන්දු ඕවරය දක්වා පිති ප්රහාරයේ යෙදුනු තමීම් ඉක්බාල් ළහිරු කුමාරගේ පන්දුවක් හමුවේ පිටියෙන් ඉවත් වන විට පන්දු 142 කදී හතරේ පහර 15 කින් සහ හයේ පහරකින් ශ්රී ලංකා පන්දු යවන්නන් හෙම්බත් කර කළ වික්රමය හේතුවෙන් තරගයේ වීරයා සම්මානයද දිනා ගත්තේය.

ශ්රී ලංකා පිතිකරුවෝ නීරස වෙද්දී දිනේෂ් චන්දිමාල් අර්ධ ශතකයක් වාර්තා කළ අතර අවසානයේදී ශ්රී ලංකාවේ පරාජයේ පරතරය අඩු කළ තිසර පෙරේරා 2014 වසරේදී එංගලන්තයට අර්ධ ශතකයක් ලැබීමෙන් පසු අර්ධ ශතකයක් වාර්තා කිරීමට සමත් විය. එය ඔහුයේ හයවැනි එක්දින අර්ධ ශතකය වූ අතර අවසන් පිතිකරුවා ලෙස දැවී යන විට පන්දු 35 කදී හතරේ පහර හතරක් සහ හයේ පහර දෙකක් සමඟ ලකුණු 55 ක් ලබා ගැනීමට පෙරේරා සමත් විය.

ශ්රී ලංකා ක්රිකට් කණ්ඩායම විවිධ ආගම් අදහන ක්රීඩකයන්ගෙන් මෙන්ම කාර්ය මණ්ඩලයකින් සන්නද්ධය. නමුත් වසර ගණනාවකට පෙර සිටම ශ්රී ලංකා ක්රිකට් පිල ඕනෑම සංචාරයක් අරඹන්නේ බෞද්ධ ආගමික වතාවත්වල මුල් තැන දෙමිනි. එහෙත් දැන් දෙවියන්ගේ හෝ දළදා සමිඳුන්ගේ පිහිට ශ්රී ලංකාවට අවශ්යම තිබෙන මොහොතකි. ඒ ශ්රී ලංකා ක්රිකට් පිල පරාජයන් රැල්ලකට හසුව සිටින නිසාවෙනි. ඇලන් ඩොනල්ඩ්, ග්රැහැම් ෆොaඩ් සහ නික් පෝතස් යන විදෙස් පුහුණුකරුවන් ඇතුළු මැතිව්ස්ගේ කණ්ඩායම සුදු වතින් සැරසී පසුගියදා දළදා වහන්සේ වැඳ පුදා ගත්තේ එකම කණ්ඩායමක් එකම ප්රාර්ථනාවක් ඔස්සේ වැටී ඇති මෙරට ජාතික ක්රිකට් කණ්ඩාමට යළිත් අළුගසා නැඟිටින්නට ත්රිවිධ රත්නයේ ආශිර්වාදය ලැබේවායි යන ප්රාර්ථනයෙනි.

Congrats Pakistan. You out-played India in every department. This may be the biggest win by margin in an ICC final. Can't believe India couldn't score at least half of the runs. 180 is a huge margin. I was expecting a close game.
People claiming about invincible Indian Cricket team among the other 3 sub-content teams of SL, BD, PAK, needs to correct their stats here now ... Sri Lanks chased down their score of 321 by scoring 322/3 in 48 overs ... and Pakistan defeated them by record 180 runs. Indian Idol of self-proclaimed supremacy among sub-content teams has been crushed and complately exterminated - at least, for the next 10 - 15 years.
Selecting players like Yovraj singh and Kumar Jadhav and ignoring much better players like Krunal, Shreyas, Tripathi cost India Champions Trophy. Indian selectors are disgrace. Kohli is hype and his poor performance continues. Don't know why he is rated #1.
Afraid India think that you can pick exactly the same team that do well at home on different wickets outside the subcontinent too - whichever format it is. They don't adapt the team composition - particularly the bowlers - at all according to where they play & so keep on insisting on playing two front line spinners all the time - that too Ashwin & Jadeja who don't perform well at all outside the subcontinent. Yuvi and Dhoni are great player's no doubt, but they are past there prime, Change them with younger player's. And also needs wicket taking spinners, Ashwin good only in subcontinent condition and weaker teams like westindies.
The final really showed how the Indian team is hugely overrated, especially highlighted by this time by Jadeja. He looked really lost. Except for Pandya nobody even showed a bit of fight. Kohli et al need to reduce the Bollywood factor of acting tough and start showing some real fight.

the years, have never won the hearts and minds of spectators. They were
always seen as a team that wanted to win ‘at any cost’- and let me tell
you why.
It was the Aussies who introduced ‘sledging’ to cricket. Of course, it was an euphemism for directing a barrage of verbal abuse at your opponents so that their concentration would fail and they would be dismissed. Other teams protested initially but you took no notice, because it served your purpose well.
Then there was that infamous ‘underarm’ incident involving your neighbours, New Zealand. When they required six runs off the last ball to tie the match, your then captain instructed his bowler to bowl the ball along the ground. You would argue that it was legal, yes, but it wasn’t exactly sportsmanship.
Then, who can forget your treatment of Murali? Your umpires ganged up on him and labelled him a ‘chucker’ although he had bowled everywhere else in the world and had no problem. If not for our own Captain Cool standing firm and standing by his man, the world would have lost its best bowler.
No one spared Murali then. Even your then Prime Minister, John Howard, weighed in to the debate saying he had no doubt that Murali was a chucker. Just imagine what it would be like if Maithri called you cheaters now – not that he will – but that would lead to a diplomatic row, wouldn’t it?
And what about the umpires who called Murali a chucker? One of them, Emerson, was to later admit that he did so at the insistence of your cricket officials. So, it looks as if the ball tampering last week was not the only time you planned and cheated – that had been a tradition of sorts for many years!
We also remember Darrel Hair, the other Aussie umpire who infamously no-balled Murali during a Boxing Day test. Years later, after Murali was vindicated, Hair was found guilty of stealing money from a liquor store. So, it seems as if not only your star players, but your umpires cheat too!
All this controversy about Murali erupted in Australia because, at that time, he was in a race with Shane Warne to become the greatest bowler of all time. And what became of Warne? He was banned for one year because he took an illegal drug – and said he took it because his mother gave it to him!
It was after all that, that we managed to beat you and win the World Cup. On that memorable night in Lahore, we felt that the rest of the world supported us not only because we were underdogs but because no one wanted you to win as you were perceived as bullies who would stop at nothing.

it took days for you to resign after last week’s scandal though it is
unthinkable that you didn’t know what your team was up to. Now, we are
being told that you are ‘innocent’ and that neither you nor your best
bowlers knew that the ball was being tampered with, so that they would
benefit!
We don’t have fond memories of you too, Darren. A few years after the World Cup win, you swore at us and called us ‘black’ when you were run out in a game against us. You should have been dealt with severely but escaped with being banned for a few games because we were content with an apology.
Because of all of this you are now facing a backlash, when you have been caught, not with your pants down but with that chap Bancroft putting sandpaper down his pants. All these years, the rest of the cricketing world were complaining, suffering at your hands, so don’t you start complaining now.
Steve and David, you have been asked to step down and Darren you have resigned but we heard the boss of your cricket Board is still keeping his job – and resignation hasn’t even crossed his mind. Well, at least in that we have something in common – our cricket boss also never resigns, no matter what!
So, Aussies, we hope you learn your lessons at least now. I suppose the great Don Bradman must be turning in his grave with everything that happened last week but even he must know that we cannot expect much more from a country populated with criminals deported from England!

that achievement. Maybe you can now become champions again, if they hold
a World Cup for the world’s best cheaters. And, I’m sure Bangladesh

Virat Kohli, the single-handed hero, produced the innings of a lifetime to keep his side in what has become a wonderfully volatile game of cricket. India’s captain began myopically under examination from Jimmy Anderson but finished majestically against any bowler summoned up by Joe Root. His innings of 149 spanned three sessions and lasted 225 balls and without it India’s chances of victory in this Test match would have long disappeared. The next highest score in India’s 274 all out was Shikhar Dhawan’s 26.
Kohli’s imperious strokeplay in the evening sunshine was all too familiar, yet in a sense the most impressive element of his innings was his early struggle against Anderson, who dismissed him cheaply so often four years ago. Here he displayed the humility of a great player. There were no flowery strokes against Anderson. He was hellbent on no more than survival. He was prepared to graft like a mortal. Anderson kept probing, Kohli kept prodding. Ostensibly not much happened and yet this was a riveting, high-class contest from which both players emerged with credit.......

Anderson was bowling as well as ever, and beat both Ravi Ashwin and Mohammed Shami, but Kohli was just beginning to get his measure. Altogether Anderson bowled 74 balls to Kohli, who made only 18 runs off them, 12 of them in 31 balls during this second spell after tea.
The other 131 he scored came in the 151 deliveries Kohli faced from everyone else. The crowd had booed Kohli when he came out. When he walked off again, they gave him an ovation. Anderson did not join in.

The rest of the Indian batsmen during that period have scored just as many between themselves in those four countries.
In the 17 Tests Kohli has played in this period, he averages 54.48; all the others in the top-seven collectively average 28.13. Since the start of the 2017-18 season, in seven Tests, Kohli has scored 31.9% of India's total runs. You get the drift...........
