Hello all,
Hope this email finds you well.
I thought you might already received similar email from other network, but in case you haven't, the civil society major groups who are involving the Prepcomm meetings are struggling to defend the 'propose to be deleted and bracketed right-based texts' for Rio +20 documents.
IPEN, WECF and other civil society's network have signed on to open letter to the UNCSD Secretary General about 'Rights at Risks at the UN' (in attached). There are currently attempts by certain countries and other major groups to weaken, or bracket or outright eliminate nearly all references to human rights obligations and equity principles in the text, 'The Future We Want', for the outcome of Rio+20.
This includes removing references to
the right to safe and clean drinking water and sanitation, the right to a clean and healthy environment, and even the principles previously agreed upon in Rio in 1992 are being bracketed including the Polluter Pays Principle, Precautionary Principle, Common but Differentiated Responsibility (CBDR).
