Dear RCC/AG in particular Wali,

Please find below an email from ESCAP seeking for a speaker on social aspects of rural development and agricultural policy. Wali, can you please share the email below to the larger RCEM list-serve and Farmers' Constituency List Serve by today please?

My proposal is we can accept nominations/self-nominations, as long as they provide these following details (let me know if I missed any questions!)
(1) Name
(2) Email
(2) Organisation
(3) Profile of Organisation
(4) Bio of nominee
(5) Rationale of nominations - describe expertise, knowledge and engagement on the issue sustainable agriculture in the context of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and social aspect of sustainable agriculture and how forthcoming agricultural policies/practices/technologies and contribute in the process.
(6) CV

I have made a google form for them to fill: https://goo.gl/forms/1gZmFzGWriTSExGy1

We also need to include our criteria:

1. Specific expertise, knowledge and engagement on the issue of (a) Sustainable agriculture in the context of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and (b) social aspect of sustainable rural development and how forthcoming agricultural policies/practices/technologies and contribute in the process
2. Representing Asia and Pacific grassroots movement, social movement or CSO network from Asia and Pacific (notes: priority will be given to ' grassroots speaker' - which means those whose lived reality illustrates the struggles of people enduring the consequences of current economic model).
3. Capacity to strongly articulate/present the views/position of civil society/social movements on the issues/topic at hand.
4. Openness/willingness to receive (and present) inputs from broader civil society; not just from his/her own organisation.
5.Able to articulate gender/women's rights perspectives

Process of nomination/self nomination for CSO speakers :
1. Fill in this form : https://goo.gl/forms/1gZmFzGWriTSExGy1 by 25 October 2016,
2. Review by RCEM Regional Coordinating Committee for further information or clarifications,
3. RCEM will send the full list of nominations by 26 October 2016
4. ESCAP will select from the nominations and communicate the result.

We should also say that Based on our usual practice, regardless of who is selected, the selected person will need to process the interventions through inputs from other Asia Pacific CSOs. Therefore, the selected people should commit to:
  • Sending the key points to the big RCEM list-serve by 12 November 2016
  • Collecting feedback and sending a draft of the intervention by 14 November 2016
  • Sending a summary of the event and final intervention to RCEM secretariat to upload to the website by 18 November 2016
I also already have some people in my mind that I think would be good for this, like Azra and Ajay, and maybe some of you have your own strong nominees even outside RCEM; we need strong speakers so let's try to submit good nominees!

Warmly,
Rina

WATCH NOW! The Road to Development Justice

Inequality is now so high that a woman garment worker earns less in a year than the Walton family earns every second. Climate change will force 50 million people to migrate from Bangladesh alone. The global crises of inequality and climate are both caused by our global economy. Together they threaten the future of humanity. It's time for a new model - a model of Development Justice. This video explains Development Justice and the shifts civil society in the Global South demand. It makes the case for why we need a new development model to address the double crises of inequality and environmental collapse. If you'd like to use this video and for citations on statistics used in this video, or dub this video in your language, email lea...@apwld.org.
