I would be interested to hear what people’s views are on the issue of Presidential Immunity.

The US supreme court yesterday agreed that there should be limited immunity for “official acts” undertaken as President.

Does this apply to killing / or “murder”?

Is the assassination of enemies of the state an “official act” ? Such as Osama Bin Laden ?

What if the enemy is within … such as a domestic spy?

What is you consider a political opponent a legitimate threat to the continuation of the state?

If you believe that getting a few million people to suspend their judgement and vote for you somehow makes you an "ubermensch", then you might believe in presidential immunity. But if you believe that we are ALL equal before the law, then no dice. Decisions taken by a committee such as a cabinet are a somewhat different case. It is like a jury meeting in advance of a crime, and deciding on a verdict of not guilty. Not perfect, but understandable.  If the decision turns out to be a bad one, then the whole cabinet may be held liable. If it's a good one, medals all round.

My view is the opposite of Presidential Immunity.

If anyone deserves immunity it's the village Idiot, the taxi driver, and the ponzi scheme,

The easier it is to nail a president the better.

That's not frivolous libertarianism. It's a serious point. No one should be more transparent, monitored and kept on the straight and narrow than a president -- whats' appropriate is the opposite of immunity.
