Good morning Honorable Indigenous Brothers and Sisters,
Hope this message finds you and family well and safe. In light of what is occurring again nationally with the U.S. ICE enforcement, and hearing from the Indigenous community, in January I contacted the Navajo Nation Human Rights Commission (NNHRC) to enquire if they were interested in hosting with the City of Albuquerque another "Know Your Rights During ICE Encounters" (KYR) community informational event. Last year I worked with the NNHRC, NM American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), NM Immigrant Law Center (NMILC) and Albuquerque Public Schools to put together our first Know Your Rights event. See attached 2025 NM ACLU KYR presentation.
I/we, the City's Office of Equity and Inclusion, Community Engagement, the Gateway Center, have been working to put together a February 25, 2026, Know Your Rights During ICE Encounters event, to be held at the Gateway Center Auditorium at 5400 Gibson Blvd SE, Albuquerque NM 87108, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. We are working in collaboration with the NNHRC, NM ACLU, NMILC, Navajo Nation Vital Records-Tribal Ids, and the 19 Pueblos District. Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller will provide a welcome and land acknowledgement. See attached flyer and agenda.
The Know Your Rights event is open to the public, will be streamed live on Zoom and recorded for later rebroadcast and access by the public on the City's Office of Native American Affairs Know Your Rights information Know Your Rights During Ice Encounters Seminar — City of Albuquerque. It will be a very informational event. Please share. Have a wonderful week!
